Wife is from there, so have been there quite a bit. Couple of things not already mentioned: Irene's on Chartres is an incredible place to eat. Also, if you are a bloody mary fan the absolute best one I've ever had is at a little dive called Deja Vu. Not the strip club but a little breakfast place a block from Bourbon Street on Dauphine and either Iberville or Bienville. Good food, too, if you've overindulged. Have fun. And do not let your wallet out of your sight. Keep in your front pocket. I know from experience.

I get the atmosphere deal. Outdoor patio style eating in a nice, busy part of NO. I guess what bugged me most was that for all the good we heard, I was expecting more. The only thing they serve are the beignets, which I think are just average and their drinks iirc are limited to coffee, water, milk, and oj. I just think there's better places to have breakfast.

I haven't toured the cemeteries, but we did take a haunted your, where they walk you around the city and give your the history of any "haunted" buildings. Kinda cool.

Houstonwhodat mentioned the plantation tours I believe. I'd like to take one of those.

What are you talking about Central Grocery is IN the French Quarter right across the street from Cafe Du Monde.

Cafe Du Monde is great but Morning Call is better, its the original but out in the suburbs now. Cafe Du Monde is busy busy and if you are wearing black you will covered with powdered sugar before you leave.

It is what it is french donuts that YOU HAVE TO EAT THERE. You cannot take them home or they turn to glue.

The food is great there.

Mother's is good but because of the Travel Channel and shows like Man vs. Food there is a line out the door.

Mahoney's is great. I like a place called World Deli but they are in the suburbs on Clearview.

My wife and I are heading out to our 3rd NO Jazz Fest in a row at the end of April.

I would stay away from Bourbon St. Head to Frenchman St. Great music, less drunks (it is still the Big Easy) and pickpockets.

At Mothers, both the fried shrimp/oyster po boys and the de bris (the meat at the end of the grill) po boys are great. Usually a place is good for fish or for meat, but this place is good for both.

It is across the street from the better W.
