The most inflammatory remarks prior to the Super Bowl come from the mouth of one of the most least likely of candidates. Raise your hand if you need to look up the name Chris Culliver? The 2nd year corner made shocking remarks in regards to homosexuality in the NFL when he spoke with comedian Artie Lange during media day for the Big Game.

Lange asked Culliver about the possiblity of gay player being a teammate, and Culliver gave a very honest, yet sure to be criticized response:

“I don’t do the gay guys man,” said Culliver, whose Niners play the Baltimore Ravens on Sunday. “I don’t do that. No, we don’t got no gay people on the team, they gotta get up out of here if they do.

“Can’t be with that sweet stuff. Nah…can’t be…in the locker room man. Nah.”

When quizzed by Lange whether any homosexual athletes would need to keep their sexuality a secret in football, Culliver responded: “Yeah, come out 10 years later after that.”

It’s extremely shocking that Culliver would say what he said with the spotlight so bright at this point. His comments just come a day after it was revealed that former San Francisco 49er Kwame Harris is gay. Harris was outed in a police report after a domestic dispute with his boyfriend. Culliver is sure to be questioned by the media as they continue to make their rounds, and it will be interesting to see if he retracts his comments or goes the old “out of context” route. For what it is worth, Culliver also sent out a pretty obnoxious tweet about females on Wednesday

But the question is, how much of what Culliver said is true? Do most straight males in an NFL locker room feel the same way? It’s likely that a majority do, but just won’t express the sentiment. That’s just the reality. But that doesn’t excuse the back up corner for his ridiculous and ignorant comments.

I don't like a lot of things, but that doesn't make me a bigot. It's called a preference or opinion.

If a guy doesn't want gays on his team, it means his preference is not to have gays on his team. Eventually, society straightens this shit out, but in the meantime people get their thong in a knot too severely about I think.

This is patently false. The whole argument. So if I don't like black people eating in the same restaurant as me, that's NOT bigotry, that's just a preference? Good luck with that. Name one instance in your whole life where a religious person was treated with this sort of institutionalized intolerance and I'll give you rep. Oh wait, never mind... Now, if he had only said that he thought the idea of two dudes together was kinda gross, I wouldn't call that bigotry. That would be a preference, but saying that he wouldn't want them on the team at all is where he crosses the line. I wouldn't want to have sex with a 280 lb woman, but I wouldn't want someone fired from their job for being 280lbs or for having a 280lb wife. That's the difference between preference and bigotry. Learn it. Further, you can say that anybody's religion or politics or philosophy is dumb. But you if you go further and don't allow Catholics or Liberals into your place of business, you're a bigot. Plain and simple.

I have a real hard time tolerating a type of person, well actually I loath them & hate is bout the best word to describe the feeling. The worst part of it is that my brother is one. By the way, there's nothing refreshing about a bigot being "honest," and admonishing people who advance an oppressive or bigoted viewpoint is not "PC bullshit." We're not talking about feelings getting hurt, we're talking about the fundamental issues of equality and discrimination. I assume you meant ISN'T the same.... Well that's good news. Apparently now that the civil rights act has passed there are no more bigots. As soon as the law made them take down their 'no blacks allowed signs' they ceased being bigots. All those klan members like david duke espousing all that hate on antional tv, nope they arent bigots at all because after all they didnt have the legal power to actually keep blacks and whites from getting married.
