49ers cornerback: No gays allowed

49ers cornerback: No gays allowed
January 30, 2013By Dave K
http://www.thevictoryformation.com/2...-gays-allowed/

The most inflammatory remarks prior to the Super Bowl come from the mouth of one of the most least likely of candidates. Raise your hand if you need to look up the name Chris Culliver? The 2nd year corner made shocking remarks in regards to homosexuality in the NFL when he spoke with comedian Artie Lange during media day for the Big Game.

Lange asked Culliver about the possiblity of gay player being a teammate, and Culliver gave a very honest, yet sure to be criticized response:

“I don’t do the gay guys man,” said Culliver, whose Niners play the Baltimore Ravens on Sunday. “I don’t do that. No, we don’t got no gay people on the team, they gotta get up out of here if they do.

“Can’t be with that sweet stuff. Nah…can’t be…in the locker room man. Nah.”

When quizzed by Lange whether any homosexual athletes would need to keep their sexuality a secret in football, Culliver responded: “Yeah, come out 10 years later after that.”

It’s extremely shocking that Culliver would say what he said with the spotlight so bright at this point. His comments just come a day after it was revealed that former San Francisco 49er Kwame Harris is gay. Harris was outed in a police report after a domestic dispute with his boyfriend. Culliver is sure to be questioned by the media as they continue to make their rounds, and it will be interesting to see if he retracts his comments or goes the old “out of context” route. For what it is worth, Culliver also sent out a pretty obnoxious tweet about females on Wednesday

Boy I wake up to a mean txt females in general just be — well let me just say they be on there PERIOD!! #1 love is mom dudes!!! Period

— Chris culliver (@Cullyinthehouse) January 30, 2013

But the question is, how much of what Culliver said is true? Do most straight males in an NFL locker room feel the same way? It’s likely that a majority do, but just won’t express the sentiment. That’s just the reality. But that doesn’t excuse the back up corner for his ridiculous and ignorant comments.

I'm sorry, please fill in blanks with the way I should really think and feel. I've surely never seen them try destroy a comedians career because they don't agree with their humor, and can't change the ****ing channel. Words are words. This is not a hate crime.

I agree with you in that people can be a little righteously indignant when something "offends" them. That said, I think that society has the duty to slap people on the wrist when they have horrible ideas. Like if a local politician wants to institute a "touch the stove a lot" policy. Under this new law, anyone passing by a hot stove must touch it to prove their loyalty to the God of the Stairs, or pay a fine. With the money raised from the fines, we will build a homeless shelter.

Now, I think we would all be within our rights to call this man an idiot. Probably a good dude. I mean, he wants to build a homeless shelter, but his ideas are... Well, horrible.

Same thing with bigotry. No matter how good of a dude this guy might be, THIS particular thing he said was pretty outrageous and all too familiar, and probably lies dormant and undisclosed in the hearts and minds of many... By calling this man out, and embarrassing him, in fact slapping the label "bigot" on him for a bit, we can get all of those who harbor these idiotic ideas to rethink. And know just exactly where their less than social intuitions stand in the marketplace of ideas.

They aren't necessarily bad people that should be condemned. A slow understanding approach, and honest discussion is the way to go about it. You are going from one witch hunt to the next. You can't expect people change their views overnight. If we just need to give programmed responses then go ahead and write a script so we don't have to hear back lash about a similar story every ****ing day. What the guy said is stupid, but the response will be every bit as stupid.
No, the response will be overblown, but it comes from a group of people who have to fight bigotry and prejudice every day. His right to be ignorant and rude is not equal to their right to fair treatment. I agree he shouldn't be branded for life or anything, but it is reasonable for people to protest when someone stands in front of a mic and degrades them.

I'm intolerant to intolerance.

Yawn.

So you're a hypocrite. Which is even worse than being tolerant.

You're a ****ing retard when it comes to race and social dynamics, but you've stumbled onto something here..

Blacks should be FAR more supportive of LBGT community and its fight for rights, yet it seems they are some of its staunchest critics. I never quite understood why; I'm thinking its largely a religious issue.

We're talking about different domains entirely. Here's an example:

A guy rapes and murders a little girl. We are justified if we are INTOLERANT of that action and as a society we have a duty to punish that man and give that little girl and her family justice.

There are just some things society should NOT tolerate. Bigotry is one of them.

I hate it when people retract what they said because of peer pressure.

I agree if it means someone is getting denied basic human rights. However everyone makes a big deal out of people saying pillowbitergot today. It's absurd. I mean pillowbitergot is even in a filter here. JFC.

Why shouldn't it be? Its could be a pretty derogatory term, maybe not to you, but to many homosexuals.

To me, your argument is no different than someone saying "I can't believe we can't go around saying ****er and person of Hispanic heritage! I've been saying it all my life and I don't wanna change. **** these intellectual pussies!".
