I don't know. I spent a lot of time with Sunni families in Iraq as my hide sites many times were in homes, and I can tell you that the vast majority wanted nothing more than to kill as many Americans as possible. I had the opportunity of attending an intensive Arabic course in the USMC, and while I certainly wasn't fluent, I could understand it well. My opinion is that Sunni Muslims don't value life as much as they value death. The most extreme example I have is a young boy tell his dad that he couldn't wait to grow up and kill Americans.

On the flip side of that token are the Shia. They were very respectful, very nice individuals. I think it really varies depending on the type of Islam the person Practices. the Same could be said for Christianity. Phelps' clan certainly doesnt represent all Christians, but they still practice Christianity.

The problem isn't the religion... It's the fact that nearly all muslim nations are theocratic, making sure that they will never secularize their morality (like the united states and most european nations have). It wasn't too long ago that white people were brutalizing each other and burning witches at the stake or putting them on the rack for "bad" ideas. But, a few hundred years of philosophy later, the governments have secularized and our common morality has FAR surpassed the very strict religious codes that are actually IN the holy books themselves. Eventually, even the religious people stop listening to the brutal/horrible parts of their own books, sans maybe a few Phelps types.

In time, Islamic nations will chill out and start to look much more like Christianity is today. Most Muslims in the United States are kinda like this already, and wouldn't hurt anybody in the name of their religion.

The point is 2500-year-old scrolls written by herder/nomads really don't translate that well to the modem day. Doesn't really matter which religion. Take the good, and ignore the bad. But don't be ignorant and think the Koran is much worse than the Bible when looked at word-for-word.
