A Pet Naming Quandary

We're getting a new dog and are arguing about names.

My boys (5 and 7) have both settled on the name Chief.

It is wrong of me to not want this name for our new dog because I see it as something of an ill omen for the dog at this point. Is this how far we've sunk?

I'm still pushing for Hugo (a local restaurant, Hugo's, plays a significant role in our family's lives).

Should I just make peace with Chief as a name and have confidence that the pall hanging over the franchise has finally been lifted?

I don't really want to say to the kids, "Listen boys. The Chiefs suck. We don't really want to name our dog after a shitty team do we?"

Or Raven. I really like name Raven for a girls name. Of course my woman disagrees, but i figure she'd be too drugged up to notice after she gives birth.
Some friends of ours have two sons: Collier and Miller (which are both traditional "profession" names, coal miner and millworker respectively).

They got pregnant with a daughter and were asking for suggestions for a profession name for her. They were not amused with my suggestion of "Hooker." I protested that it was the oldest profession, and they still didn't like it. Some people

It's better to name your dog with a name that ends in an "e" sound. Or so I've been told. Supposedly they can hear it better.

I like Hugo better, and if you name the dog Chief he'll never win a playoff game against other dogs.

lol.

I'm not sure how they ended up with so many nicknames; I, however came up with my labs nickname of "Sweet Pea".

my wife gets them all ralled up when we get home and all go outside to play; over time she's given them so many damn nicknames they'll probably respond to anything given the right voice inflection.
