Skateboarder busted for speeding at 68 mph

A professional skateboarder is potentially facing jail time after uploading a video that purports to show him skating at an astounding 68 mph through the middle of traffic.

South African skater Decio Lourenco faces the charges after Cape Town city officials say his high-speed skating actually triggered a speed camera. The speed limit in the town Lourenco was skating through is reportedly 37 mph.

“All that was needed was for one of those motorists to panic and swerve into the oncoming traffic and you have a large number of deaths, as we have already had on that road, safety spokesman Jean-Pierre Smith, told the New York Daily News. "If we don't take action against him, every other aspirant skateboarder will try it and one of them will come to a sticky end."

Yeah. There are only millions of skateboarders and less than 100 wing suit flyers. A skateboarder flying down a busy street at 68 mph is lame.

Music choice is lame, not the stunt.

21 million views of this extreme "stunt", but the skateboarder people use the same music:

There are a jillion songs they could have chosen, and they chose the same one that is, famously, used for another extreme stunt.

Can't even imagine going that fast. I skated a ton growing up but never rode those long boards like that. They must have much different wheels and bearings because the ones I used would probably burn up if I would have got going that fast.

How do you train to do that? I doubt you could really ride along with anyone, your first time would be pretty scary. I guess maybe they base jump for a while and eventually move on to this? Can't imagine what the first time would be like though.

You can go pretty fast on flat ground with a nice bike. 40 on the right road, would be NOTHING like that board shit through traffic. I hit a fairly deep pothole I didn't know about at probably 20-25 on my mountain bike on the way home late from a bar one night. Didn't even phase me, probably the booze, but ****ed up some expensive parts though. Did hurt some the next day. That is impressive as hell. No way I could do that.
