Do you support the outright ban of "assault" rifles?

Simple...

yes or no.

This thread brought to you by a comment in DC stating we would be surprised by how few people in DC would support the ban. Figured we might as well get numbers.

If you don't want to say that's fine. I am not looking to argue the point.
Actually, if you just go 40 posts into the thread, you'll notice I (start to) make my case in post #40 to nobody other than yourself.

In other words, you and I have literally already had this conversation.

Seriously, I've been through this with him and he knows next to nothing about guns.
I know states with more guns tend to have more female deaths. I know 83 women are killed for every woman who uses a gun in self defense. I know guns generally make domestic violence worse because batterers who own guns are likely to use them.

I know that the rate of gun ownership correlates positively with incidence of homicide. When guns are prevalent, there are significantly more homicides. I know that having a gun in the home increases the odds of a violent death.

I know that states with more gun control have less gun deaths when you include suicides, and states with weaker gun control laws have more gun violence. I know there's some evidence that guns are used far more frequently to threaten than protect.

And I know that mass shootings with assault weapons tend to be deadlier. And "Right To Carry" laws increase aggravated assault.

I also know that gun rights advocates are terrified of researching gun violence, and that most of them think they're less dangerous than video games. But yeah, I'm the person who's just believing what I'm told.

No. Because in my opinion, they will just continue to re-classify everything until everything is so regulated its essentially obsolete.
The last thing I want is some blowhard politician or otherwise, who probably kows next to nothing about firearms, telling me what I'm allowed or to allowed to have.

I remember now, the reason I dismissed it is because I could tell you are not interested in ending violence, or making any one safer. You are strictly toeing the liberal mantra.

Anybody talking about about a so called "assault weapons" ban making everybody safer is either incredibly naive or they have an agenda to eliminate private firearm ownership.

The so called "assault weapon" is responsible for very few deaths a year, something like around 40. I think IIRC there have been around 350 since the end of the AWB.

There are nearly as many drunk driving deaths as there are all firearm homicides. Where are the cries for alcohol bans?

Who was the idiot who was saying pistol grips make a rifle more accurate? This is the kind of stupidity we're dealing with here.

Just to be clear: I'm perfectly fine with arguing the point. So don't feel like you have to lie in order to get me to express my opinion. Just keep that piece of advice for future reference.

The goal of an assault weapons ban is simple: make shooting sprees less deadly.

Assault weapons are already banned.
