Tim Tebow supports gay-hating pastor

He's a douche.

Agreeing to speak at intolerant church is Tebow's greatest sin

http://www.cbssports.com/nfl/story/2...s-greatest-sin

Quote:
Tim Tebow is about to make the biggest mistake of his life.

Tebow has agreed to speak at a hateful Baptist preacher's church, an evangelical cretin named Robert Jeffress who does the work of the Lord sort of like Westboro Baptist in Topeka, Kan., does the work of the Lord.

Not at all.

Jeffress isn't as bad as Westboro. He doesn't send his flock to funerals of U.S. soldiers and have his sheep yell awful things like, "God hates pillowbiters." But he comes close. Too close. He believes, he has said, "It's a fact that [AIDS is] a gay disease so there's a reasonable reason to exclude gays from the military."

Jeffress is a bad guy. He says Jews and homosexuals are going to hell. He says the Catholic church is a satanic cult. He says Islam "is a religion that promotes pedophilia -- sex with children."

Mormons? They're going to hell, too, but Jeffress was willing to overlook that and promote Mitt Romney over Barack Obama in the 2012 presidential election because Obama, Jeffress said, "is paving the way for the future reign of the Antichrist."

"I am not saying that President Obama is the Antichrist, I am not saying that at all," Jeffress said in November. "One reason I know he's not the Antichrist is the Antichrist is going to have much higher poll numbers when he comes."

Tim Tebow supports this man.

More than supports him, Tebow is going to throw his weight -- and it is considerable; we're talking about Tim Tebow for God's sake -- behind this preacher by speaking at his church in Dallas in April.

Obama says he's a christian, he just doesn't really believe any of the things they believe. Outside of charity for the poor, which he didn't personally practice on his charitable donations via his tax return data. He's whatever you want him to be - the blank slate. Worships an amazing God, but isn't religious. Is against gay marriage, but really isn't. Is against free market economics until he's not.

No, it's not. In many of the more humble interpretations of the Christian belief system it would be a sin to declare that anyone is going to hell. Doing so would be passing judgement on another human, which you are not capable of. To assume that you know where one's heart lies with the Lord would be an arrogance so deep the you would need to beg forgiveness for such a prideful mistake. Among the hateful "points" attributed to that church is that Catholicism is a satanic church (or cult). Catholics are actually Christians. Sure, they have a belief system that differs from Protestants, but they are Christians. I haven't looked for myself but judging by the article this Robert Jeffress is a hateful pile of shit.

This doesn't make sense. If you don't accept the Lord as your savior then you will go to Hell. That concept is outlined in the Bible and it's pretty clear. It's just repetition of a fact according to the Bible. A believer stating this would not be judging anyone - it's not their call to make.

I think the term you're looking for is Lukewarm.

No, I found the terms I was looking for. Arrogance. Pride. Hatred. Check yourself versus your own sacred text, Christian.

Its often not necessary to assume. If someone says "I don't believe Jesus is God, etc." you don't have to assume.

Anyway, it is not about a person specifically judging another person--it is simply making a statement: If you don't believe, then you are going to hell.

How do you know whether someone else has accepted Christ? Especially when you are using blanket statements against entire religions? Can you say that every Catholic is going to Hell? Every Jew? Every Mormon? Every homosexual?

Sure. But that's not the case in that article. You could view Jews that way. Mormons to a degree from what I understand of their beliefs. But Catholics and homosexuals? That doesn't apply.

I would know someone has not accepted Christ when they mock the religion or they tell me that they don't believe in that. Those statements, combined with statements in the Bible, lead to the conclusion of Hell. However, that is not an irreversible situation. Also, it does not matter what one knows or doesn't know - it's not the person's choice. They have no say in who will or will not go to hell.

Well if the religion does not accept Christ, then yeah, followers of that religion are Hell bound as defined by the rules outlined in the Bible.

Catholics accept Jesus, so they still fit in the non Hell category, right? Mormons are the same case.

Being homosexual has no bearing on belief in Jesus. That's between the person and God and I don't see that listed in the 10 commandments.

I'm not agreeing with the preacher in any way. My point in all this was simply to point out that this "hateful" preacher isn't much different than the "not hateful" ones.

His view on Catholics might be a bit extreme, but I am talking about his basic message: If you don't believe in Jesus as savior, etc., you are going to hell. This is mainstream, traditional Christian belief. But it generally isn't criticized unless someone is caught on tape or actually quoted as saying, "Jews are going to hell." Then, it becomes a mini-controversy. But in fact, it is essentially said every Sunday morning across the country.
