Tim Tebow is about to make the biggest mistake of his life.

Tebow has agreed to speak at a hateful Baptist preacher's church, an evangelical cretin named Robert Jeffress who does the work of the Lord sort of like Westboro Baptist in Topeka, Kan., does the work of the Lord.

Not at all.

Jeffress isn't as bad as Westboro. He doesn't send his flock to funerals of U.S. soldiers and have his sheep yell awful things like, "God hates pillowbiters." But he comes close. Too close. He believes, he has said, "It's a fact that [AIDS is] a gay disease so there's a reasonable reason to exclude gays from the military."

Jeffress is a bad guy. He says Jews and homosexuals are going to hell. He says the Catholic church is a satanic cult. He says Islam "is a religion that promotes pedophilia -- sex with children."

Mormons? They're going to hell, too, but Jeffress was willing to overlook that and promote Mitt Romney over Barack Obama in the 2012 presidential election because Obama, Jeffress said, "is paving the way for the future reign of the Antichrist."

"I am not saying that President Obama is the Antichrist, I am not saying that at all," Jeffress said in November. "One reason I know he's not the Antichrist is the Antichrist is going to have much higher poll numbers when he comes."

Tim Tebow supports this man.

More than supports him, Tebow is going to throw his weight -- and it is considerable; we're talking about Tim Tebow for God's sake -- behind this preacher by speaking at his church in Dallas in April.

Drugs, money, assault, children they never mean to father -- sometimes young men get themselves involved in unwise things. Tebow shouldn't be expected to be any different. I disagree with Tim on this one, but I think that a great many men make far more damaging choices. Everyone will survive.

Edit: On second thought, I suppose that Tebow might be contributing to an attitude that might cause a person to harm himself. The harm could conceivably be fatal. He really should reconsider his appearance.

Why anyone is surprised by this is beyond me. Tebow has made no secret he is a Christian and this preacher is not preaching anything that is not preached in countless churches through out the country~

first off, hell is mentioned over 60 times in the OT. Jesus preached on hell more than any other subject.

Jesus didn't say don't judge, but warned if you do, you will be held to same standard.

Hell is a place of physical pain and suffering with relational isolation and is a place of eternal punishment. It isn't a place where you would want your enemies to end up. Suffering, pain and horror will be real.

Hebrews 10:29...Just think how much worse the punishment will be for those who trampled on the Son of God and have treated the blood of the covenant, which made us holy, as if it were common and unholdy, and have insulted and disdained the Holy Spirit who brings God's mercy to us.

My prayer is that none of you would go there and to accept Christ.

His view on Catholics might be a bit extreme, but I am talking about his basic message: If you don't believe in Jesus as savior, etc., you are going to hell. This is mainstream, traditional Christian belief. But it generally isn't criticized unless someone is caught on tape or actually quoted as saying, "Jews are going to hell." Then, it becomes a mini-controversy. But in fact, it is essentially said every Sunday morning across the country.

Hell is not mentioned 60 times in the Old Testament. It's mentioned 31 times total. There are other references talking about graves and pits, but not Hell as in the same context. And it's important to note that in the Old Testament, it wasn't referred to as the same Hell that we're familiar with. The Hell of the the Old Testament was actually Sheol. Sheol was different than Hell, in that it was not a place of torment or punishment. Everyone who died went to Sheol, not just sinners, but righteous people too. It was simplified as the land of the dead. The fire and brimstone parts weren't added until the New Testament, when they needed a more forceful explanation for why evil people could go through life without punishment. So they created a punishment in the afterlife, to make sense of it.

And it's already been pointed out, but I thought it deserved to be again. This quote from you, in back to back sentences, is ripe with irony:

sorry, didn't mean to put him in a box. That wasn't my intent for sure.

I was trying to point out that we are not doing the judging and the discussion has been about hell.

No dobut that Jesus provides a lot more than an out from going to hell.
