Mock (3/18/13)

We're down to just one assumption at this point: the Chiefs are not able to trade down from #1 overall.

On with the show:

1. OT Luke Joeckel, Texas A&M

The day Albert gets extended is the day this selection changes.

3. S Eric Reid, LSU

With the news that Dunta Robinson is going to play nickel, our safety depth chart needs talent. Reid is a 2nd round grade to me, but he's fallen a bit on a lot of depth charts following a merely ordinary 2012 season.

3. WR Stedman Bailey, West Virginia

A legit deep threat with 4.4 speed. We've seen plenty of this guy from the Geno highlight films.

4. ILB Nico Johnson, Alabama

I really like Nico a lot, a lot more than Bostic and Reddick, who at this point are the other two ChiefsPlanet favorites at ILB.

5. C Brian Schwenke, California

Not a lot of great center talent in this draft. I've dropped this particular 5th on Schwenke a lot recently.

6. OLB Michael Buchanan, Illinois

Another guy I've drafted a lot recently. Illinois has put out a lot of great physical talent and athleticism. Key depth for our linebacking corps.

6. RB Christine Michael, Texas A&M

A bigger back that doesn't have a lot of miles. He saw his load decrease quite a bit last season, which makes me hesitant. I thought he was a midrounder going into this season.

7. ILB DeVonte Holloman, South Carolina

More depth for the ILB corps. Instead of Nico's physical play, however, I'm going with a much more athletic ILB this time around. Holloman is super athletic, but he's pretty light which has caused some people to rate him as a safety -- and we know that "tweener" status will drop you like a rock. Either way, he's valuable to the team's depth and versatility.
