Negotiating with the #1 pick.

I don't pay attention to the #1 pick very much since I was 2 months old the last time we had one.

So if you're the Chiefs, are you negotiating with the #1 pick now? Are you negotiating with 2 or 3 guys? Are you negotiating with one guy and telling him that you're negotiating with 2 or 3 to get more leverage?

It seems like the #1 pick has a bit of a disadvantage if negotiations start early, because if he's unreasonable then the team can just say, "Screw you. We're taking that other offensive lineman instead." There's no other pick where the negotiations can be taken off the table, and in all other picks the inherent advantage goes to the player since the team can't withdraw the pick.

So what's the deal? Do teams play the field on the #1 pick, or do they just go after their guy?

And I guess this assumes that there's no clear #1 pick.

Seems to me publishing this before trading Albert kind of screws us on negotiating with Miami.

Thats why I have doubts that even if it were true, they wouldn't be broadcasting it to media.

I imagine KC has talked with agents for all 4 players they say are left on their board.

Do teams still negotiate rookie salaries? It's not sort of already figured out with the rookie scale?

That's what I was thinking too. There doesn't seem to be any advantage to talking to their agents before the draft. This seems like a BS report.
