Let's Talk Spark Plugs!

Doing a tune up on a 2002 Jeep with the 4.0 liter straight six engine. Not much to do in a tuneup these days but change the plugs and plug wires (if they need it.)

What plugs to you guys like?

Somebody recommended Autolite Iridium XP-985, which cost about $6 a plug. Iridium is rated up to about 100,000 miles, but they burn hot.

The standard copper plugs, recommend the NGK with a "V" notch, cost around $3 ea and have an estimated life of 50,000 miles.

Any thoughts as to what the best plug for an old Jeep like this is?

Could be, because I have had nothing but trouble with Autolites, those things are terrible IMO.

That's what everyone tells me too so I don't argue, but for my purpose they've been fine and I have never seen/felt a performance difference by going with more expensive plugs.
Might one day blow the money on some of those E3's, HorsePower TV found a power increase on the dyno with those.

NGK plugs are pretty standard on jap cars from the factory because they are jap plugs, or they used to be made in japan.

some cars (like camry's) call for iradiated plugs...I thought it said iratated plugs...anyway make sure you ask for them...youll get better milage and performance

What... nobody here like E3??

I put a set in my 94 Suburban that had a 350ci and 225K miles and burned just a little oil and it breathed NEW LIFE into that warn out old motor. Of course the Cold Air Intake and the dual exhaust didn't hurt either.... but I really thought the E3's made a HUGE improvement over stock plugs. Just my .02
