Will these Obamacare steps benefit you or your family?

Will these steps benefit you or your family?

  1. No pre-existing conditions.
  2. No cap on benefits. If I or a member of my family need to battle cancer, they will get the help they need.
  3. Insurance companies can't drop me or my family if we get sick.
  4. Carrying your kids on your health insurance until the age of 26.
  5. Insurance companies have to spend at least 80% of all revenue on healthcare. If they go over, we get a refund.
  6. A shitload of preventive services will be free. Googled the list.http://www.uspreventiveservicestaskf...uspsabrecs.htm

Spin off from another thread. Going to make this a private poll

I would imagine based on your posting here in the DC forum, that you wouldn't last one day in the private sector. Maybe not even make it to lunchtime.

I voted Screw Obamacare. America needs healthcare reform and some of the kernels of ideas in Obamacare are worthy of consideration, but the current shape of the plan is an abomination just like most of what this administration does (especially because the most important aspect of the health care problem, i.e. skyrocketing costs, wasn't addressed).
The thread is basically:
How awesome is Obama?
a.) Awesome?
b.) Super Awesome?
c.) Really Super Awesome?
d.) All of the above.

There's no actual intent or desire to find out any results.

Situation normal for BRC, I guess.

I've not seen any of those things in my real life to this date.

What I have seen is a letter from my insurance carrier suggesting rates will grow leaps and bounds and coverage options will see significant changes due to Obamacare.

Millions. they are also leeching and we are paying for their health care.

Thats one of the reasons we need immigration reform, why they need to come out of the shadows. They can pay taxes, fines and maybe buy health insurance like the rest of us.

Right now they are getting a free ride. Has to be a better system.

Again, this whole idea is mostly a fiction.

Quote:
So-called frequent fliers, a term emergency department (ED) personnel sometimes use to describe patients who are costly and frequent visitors to the ER, are far more apt to be enrolled in Medicaid than any other type of coverage, the study found.

According to the report, one in twenty (5.1 percent) of Medicaid enrollees visits the ER four or more times per year, whereas only 1 percent of people with private health coverage visit an ER that often. Medicaid enrollees are 2.5 times as likely as the uninsured to be frequent users of ERs.

Confirms Earlier Findings

The NCHS report arrived just one month after a report by Eduardo LaCalle and Elaine Rabin, both from Mount Sinai School of Medicine in New York City, published in the Annals of Emergency Medicine, which reached similar conclusions. In the Annals study, only 15 percent of frequent users were uninsured. Nearly two-thirds (60 percent) of frequent visitors to the ER were covered by government insurance—Medicaid or Medicare.

Patients who frequent the ER may constitute only about 5-8 percent of ER patients, but they account for approxinately one-quarter of all ER visits, where care is often free to the patient and they can avoid having to book an appointment in advance. Both reports conclude frequent users of the ER tend to be in poor health.

“Of the patients who use the ED frequently, the largest factors are a lack of a strong social network, a lack of alternatives and/or awareness of them, genuine illness, and combinations thereof,” Nichols said.

Flood of New Patients

The Congressional Budget Office projects 32 million uninsured residents will gain health coverage under Obama’s health care law, with about half of them being covered by Medicaid. These new reports suggest that, contrary to the claims of those who supported the legislation, expanding coverage will result in more patients turning to the ER, a point Nichols acknowledges.
http://news.heartland.org/newspaper-...ly-exaggerated

The people flooding the ER with non emergency care are people WITH govt insurance. Obamacare will do NOTHING, ABSOLUTELY NOTHING, to reduce the levels of ER abuse significantly. For every 1 uninsured person you take out of the equation you add 1 more medicaid leech to the system.

Wow! We agree. Is enforcing the laws an option?

This, plus the idea millions of uninsured that don't go to the ER now but will get free or greatly subsidized healthcare will somehow lower costs in the long run has long ago fallen off the tracks. Obamacare will raise premiums for many people that are already insured. That isn't in question.

If completely enacted you'll eventually see companies drop coverage and force employees to buy insurance on the exchanges. But again, that won't reduce costs unless benefits are reduced.

What we're witnessing is the birth of another entitlement. And as we've seen how good the government at handling entitlements it isn't a surprise Obamacare has a low approval rating for those of us paying the bills.

People act like just because you don't have insurance you're automatically "leeching" off the system. The fact is many people go years without the need for medical care. And there's nothing saying those people don't start buying insurance when they turn 30.
