Street Corner Preacher has his amplification equipment seized

http://www.news-leader.com/interacti...r?sf15448795=1

I get his argument. However, festivals and events have city permits. Plus, the people who live in that area live in that area for a reason. They have the right to enjoy their dwelling. You can be a couple of blocks away and hear this guy. If it's something you don't want to hear, then that is disturbing. It's different if it was only customers, but the complaints come from citizens who live in the area. Without the amplification, he has no voice? You can still say what you want to say. If people want to stop and listen, they can. If they don't, it's nice to be able to walk a block or two away and not have to hear you. Knowing how conservative many in the justice system seem to be, I can totally see this guy winning.

I could see a case being made that the Freedom of speech doesn't extend to amplification. He wants to stand on a public sidewalk and spout religion I would imagine thats constitutionally protected regardless if it upsets people.

Would freedom of speech include the right to amplify the speech? I doubt the courts would back that right.

There are rules in place about amplification...according to the article he is following them. Hence now it does become a 1st Amendment argument. Springfield needs to change their laws.

This crazy ****er tends to set up right across the street from my office building during lunch. The signs occasionally change - he used to specifically accuse an FBI agent of raping his wife, but lately he's on about Rahmbo. When he was silently crazy I didn't really give a shit, but then he declared himself a whisteblower, and would spend the entire lunch hour blowing his ****ing whistle. Annoying as ****. You get stuck standing next to him waiting for the light to change and he's practically blowing the goddamn thing in your ear - I have seriously wanted to shove that whistle up into his nether regions. But of course if you lay a hand on him it's jail/job gone/etc., so you just endure it as another boon of spending your days in the Peoples Republik of Chicago.

I guess there's no rule against this annoying shit, but there should be. God I hate people who needlessly **** with other people for no reason other than to do it. At least he finally laid off the whistle.
