You're a Chiefs fan, yet you have an opinion on the Broncos. Isn't that odd?

Throughout the text, all references to the Q source material will be marked thus:

(Matthew | Luke), with the order of the books indicating which gospel I am most directly quoting. That is because these are the earliest and thus most reliable sources available to us about the life of the Nazarean. In general I have chosen not to delve too deeply into the so-called “Gnostic Gospels.” While these texts are incredibly important in outlining the wide array of opinions among the early Christian community about who Jesus was and what his teachings meant, they do not shed much light on the historical Jesus himself.

Although it is almost unanimously agreed that, with the possible exception of Luke-Acts, the gospels were not written by the people for which they are named, for ease and the sake of clarity, I will continue to refer to the gospel writers by the names by which we now know and recognize them.

Clearly Aslan had to reference the gospels to write about Jesus...there shoudlnt be any question of this....and your quote should silence all questions

Side issue of translations

You can also reference 'Young's literal translation'

I have done some research in this area, and young is one of the best:

Also you can go to bible.cc to compare many translations simultaneously

It's true that Judaism believes that. The Christian response has always been the same: Jesus is supposedly alive. (Easter services). They also believe he'll return to Earth at some point in the future so he cannot be dead if that's the case.

As soon as you figure out that he's not relying on it as an accurate, historical account, we might make progress.

Now that you accept both Aslan & I are talking about interpretations of the Bible, and what the Bible means, you will finally be able join the actual conversation. Welcome.

For a while there I was wondering if you'd ever grasp what the debate was about, instead of the weird tangents you and Cosmo were taking.

Cosmo and Patteu are very prideful people, so don't expect them to ever admit they made a mistake.

The lack of any primary sources outside of the Bible regarding Jesus is well known. It's problematic for Christians to a degree because if he had done all the things the gospels claim it likely would've shown up in other accounts (particularly Tacitus). The four gospels are also written by different people so of course they'll tell things in a varied manner just as you'd expect four Chiefs fans to describe an NFL contest differently.

It may all be nonsense and lies, but Aslan believes some of the Bible including the crucifixion. Which is weird because Islam teaches the crucifixion didn't happen.

It's not weird if you understand what the guy says in his interviews. Just as he's not accepting widely held Christian beliefs as ground truth history, so too with Islamic beliefs. That's why you can't use a religious document to test his theories like you tried to do.

Completely wrong. The only thing we have to analyze his theories would be quotes attributed to Jesus. Since the only quotes we have are found in the Bible, and nowhere else, we have to start (and end) there.

When Aslan says he doesn't believe Jesus ever thought he was God, there's only 1 place he could get that idea from. Therefore, only 1 place we should look to see if his interpretation makes sense or not.

Without looking very deeply into the text, I view Aslan's work as similar to Thomas Jefferson's work on his "secret Bible." Aslan seems to be trying to look at Jesus, the person, from a historical perspective. I freely admit that my opinion is influenced by my own point of view, but I think Aslan is treating the supernatural aspects of the gospels as allegory and mythological while trying to incorporate as much verifiable (or reasonable) data into his work. So you could say that yes he is of course using the Bible as a basis, but not necessarily the spiritual stories, concepts or beliefs held true by Christians/Jews or expressed by the text itself. This does all get cluttered as he has said (as far as I know) that he converted from Islam to Christianity then back again. I would be impressed if he is capable of remaining objective throughout his book.

My god you dumbass, I'm talking about contemporary accounts and so is Aslan. The Koran wasn't written until 600 years later, which by that time all sorts of Jesus stories and supposed quotes were circulating.

Just stop posting. You're a god-damned moron.
