The History of Labor Day

In 1882, Matthew Maguire, a machinist, first proposed the holiday while serving as secretary of the CLU (Central Labor Union) of New York.

Others argue that it was first proposed by Peter J. McGuire of the American Federation of Labor in May 1882, after witnessing the annual labour festival held in Toronto, Canada. Oregon was the first state to make it a holiday on February 21, 1887. By the time it became a federal holiday in 1894, thirty states officially celebrated Labor Day.

Following the deaths of a number of workers at the hands of the U.S. military and U.S. Marshals during the Pullman Strike, the United States Congress unanimously voted to approve rush legislation that made Labor Day a national holiday; President Grover Cleveland signed it into law a mere six days after the end of the strike.

The September date originally chosen by the CLU of New York and observed by many of the nation's trade unions for the past several years was selected rather than the more widespread International Workers' Day because Cleveland was concerned that observance of the latter would be associated with the nascent Communist, Syndicalist and Anarchist movements that, though distinct from one another, had rallied to commemorate the Haymarket Affair in International Workers' Day.

All U.S. states, the District of Columbia, and the territories have made it a statutory holiday.

As far as I know, I don't see any "worker's rights" in the US Constitution. It is in the writings of Marx, where it's also mentioned in the UN Charter of Human Rights, which includes many fake and unnatural rights conjured up by the opinion of some socialists. Namely Eleanor Roosevelt. Last I looked she was not a Founding Father of this country nor a Framer of our law.

You actually want to do something about immigration, go after the companies that create a demand for illegals by hiring them.
Of course, the fact that big business is 110% behind the amnesty as is the US Chamber of Commerce ought to clue you in on something obvious.

Fact is both the progressive-socialist-commie left and corporations benefit from illegal immigrant labor. The former for more voters and thus more power
to transform the country to a socialist state the latter to save money. The former is far more evil and destructive.
Most illegals pay more in taxes then the receive from the system.

The rest is your typical fail.

BEP mentioned commie's, drink!

You can't possibly be this dense to think business interests aren't driving amnesty. You just can't.

That was not a citation. Do you not know what the word means?

And are you really so dense as to not understand that business hiring illegals is what drives the demand for illegals to come?

Would illegals come to this country if they couldn't find jobs?

Who creates the demand for illegals by employing them?

Who benefits financially from employing illegal employees?

He's awfully dense.

But it does once again highlight the Liberal's total and complete stupidity with respect to amnesty. You see: they believe in amnesty, so any coutner arguments bother them and must be rationalized away somehow. It's clear Big Business wants the amnesty. They want legalization. Any breathing human should immediately ask if it makes one shred of sense for them to all want something that would actually be bad for them.

Whats the matter, don't want to cite to a Redstate article from five years ago to back up this claim? Can you offer no evidence?
