Yeah, I still use my $10 pair for softball, but I use my nice ones for golf or most other outdoor things that aren't around water (tailgates, baseball games, mowing, etc...).

My expensive ones will go to the lake when I have some crokies for them, but I haven't gotten around to buying any.

I wear the same pair of Oakleys for doing all those things you listed. I did break an arm on my Oakleys once when I had a collision with a dipshit on the softball field. But I contacted Oakley and they sent me a replacement set of arms. Never broke a pair other than that. My current pair I've had for 4 years.

It depends on the activity but I wear my nice ones for basically everything. Really only don't wear them for basketball or swimming. You also have to remember that the lenses and frames themselves are made of much stronger material than cheap ones and are much less likely to break.

Frames are more flexible yet stronger and this about the lenses from the Ray-Bans web site - "All the sun lenses through an advanced chemical hardening process, can withstand the Drop Ball test – a 5/8 inch steel ball dropped onto the lens from a height of 50 inches. From the frames to the lenses, the Carbon Fibre’s can hold up to all the drops, squashes and wear you’ll put them through."

Ok, you guys are actually convincing me. I am going to try to own another nice pair. I"ve been wanting to for a while. The ones I got at the gas station that have a small nascar emblem on them just aren't cuttin it when we go out to dinner. I've got my eye on some maui jims and a pair of raybans

Ray-Bans cannot withstand a foot on them.

I don't know how this relates to the Drop Ball test, but if they fall off your shirt at a tailgate and get stepped on by the dude behind you, the right lens will shatter and the frames will bend.

So there's that...

If you are at a tailgate aren't you wearing sunglasses? Also I have a clip I bought for $5 that I use if I think I may be wanting to take my sunglasses off and on. And since when do people drop things and someone completely ignores it and just steps all over them with complete disregard? It really isn't that hard to have nice things especially when you know you spent a lot on them and are more careful to not break them

Eh, Mizzou football game, we were walking up the big hill outside the stadium back up to the parking lot. Sun had gone down for the most part after the game and I was kinda trotting up the hill to catch up to some folks. They bounced off, took a hop sideways and went into a crowd of feet only to die an ignominious death.

I still take my nice ones to tailgates, though. It took a fair number of unlucky occurrences for those to die.
