You know Andy Reid was going to stand by Alex Smith and that’s what he did on Monday when facing the press. Reid has been doing this for a loooong time so he let reporters have their fun for a few minutes and then he shut down any talk of Nick Foles playing in front of a healthy Alex Smith. Will it work? I guess it depends on how well Foles plays this weekend ... if he plays this weekend since the Chiefs doctors contend Alex actually doesn’t have a concussion.

Check out this exchange between Reid and reporters this afternoon.

Q: You were asked whether you had to cut back the game plan when Foles came in and you said no. Did he allow you to expand the game plan, maybe do some things that you couldn’t do with Smith?

Reid: No. Alex, I’m not sure we realize how good he is. We’ve opened this thing up further than maybe we’ve ever opened it up. He does a tremendous job. It’s a shame he didn’t have a chance to finish off the game plan because he would’ve had a ton of success with it. Not to take anything away from Nick. We didn’t have to cut a thing out for Nick coming in. That was a win-win for both guys. To think one would’ve done better than the other, I don’t believe that. If Alex would’ve been in, we would’ve done the same thing.

Q: You guys his four passes of 30 yards down the field. That’s unusual for you guys. Was that because the way the game was going or because of who was at quarterback?

Reid: I think it was part of the plan. That was all in the game plan. They would’ve been called. They were right on the first 15. They were coming up so whether it was Alex in there or Nick they were coming up. A couple of them formation wise, there was a little confusion on the formation and guys popped open.

Q: Does Foles give you more capability in that area?

Reid: No, I’m not even sure I like the way you’re going with this. Alex can do all the things that need to be done in this offense and do them at a Pro Bowl-caliber level.

Q: Is he your quarterback when he’s healthy then?

This is the chiefs clay unless he has a fitz like meltdown and maybe even then he won't get benched until the fan base goes rabid again.

No matter how much you post complaining about Alex, he is still going to start for the Chiefs. Deal with it. It's not the end of the world. We won a playoff game with the guy and would have won two with him if Charles didn't get hurt and our defense didn't completely fall apart against the Colts.

Even the worst Alex Smith hater should be able to admit he is not a bad QB.. Stop acting like he is Matt Cassel, he isn't

We weren't gonna beat the pats last year with or with our Charles our offense had been on a clear decline all season.

Yep. The Brass of the Hunt family finally got what they wanted ever since Marty left, long term stability.

From a business prospective they'd be nuts to give that up.

As much as the Alex dink and dunk style drives me crazy the Chiefs are doing the best with QBs since I've become a fan. They're actually taking shots in the draft (Murray, Bray, Hogan) and bringing in Foles. It's not perfect but it's a whole lot better than it used to be.

That's my random thought for the day.

Because Alex actually showed something that first season. He threw 27 TDs in 16 games with a lot of hot garbage around him. He was damn good in the playoffs. He has since regressed substantially, is throwing 1 TD per game, can't even ****ing scramble anymore, and the passing game is complete and total garbage despite the fact they've added lots of talent around him.

The offense isn't scoring with him at QB. The only reason it scored a TD AT ALL vs one of the worst NFL defenses Sunday was the defense gifting him a short field.

Because, just like Pioli before them, they are entrenched and stuck with their $70 million dollar man. They made their bed, Alex Smith is shitting in it, and now they're all going to have to lay in it. Unless Smith gets his noggin cracked open, decides to retire and we get into an injury settlement situation. That would be the best for all parties. But likely we're just going back to being stuck in neutral.

Good thing the defense is beasting or these guys would be getting ****ing FIRED.

This argument is tired from both sides. Your take on the Colts game is absurd. I almost got sucked back in there arguing over his play, but I won't. You know my response as surely as I know yours in turn. I will never convince you, or those like you, that the way he plays is valuable and you'll never convince me that it's value-less.

The question that was raised was why a middling QB would have such a following, the answer, at least for me, is that his effort and his character are undeniably praiseworthy and instead what he receives from so many is vitriol. It is because of that vitriol that I became interested in his individual success apart from the success of my favorite team. The two can, and do, co-exist.

Got it, you were against him coming here to begin with and maintained that position steadfastly, even though he was lights out with hot garbage to start.

And now your two-plank position is, if he loses short of the the SB he's garbage and he's going to get old some day.

Not a big fan of flavored colas.

I like Vanilla Dr. Pepper on rare occasions, but I'm generally a staunch Coca Cola or Dr. Pepper only type.

I do like chocolate Coke from the fountain with Hershey's syrup, but that hasn't been commodified yet AFAICT.
