I kind of always figured if you "chose" to kick off with your first half selection, the other team was going to let to kickoff to begin the 2nd half for being a total dumbass in the first place.

Yeah..we brought 5 on most those sacks, but the QB rarely had time to make a 5 step drop. And sometime they blew up the 3 step drop. That's ****ing improvement.

Just because the Raiders are too ****ing stupid to defer, doesn't make that a rule. If you choose to kick off, you're choosing not to defer. And obviously, the second team will choose to receive in the second half.

But I disagree with Belichick. With a few minutes to go in the game, I believe 7th-string running back Richard Medlin made a nice run for a first down. So there's that.

They changed the rules last year. Whichever team kicks off the 1st half automatically receives in the 2nd half.

A perfect storm of an ill-prepared and listless team, missing some players, going on the road to an up-and-coming team that played it like it was the Super Bowl. A lot of Patriots mailed in some of their suckiest showings to date (the OL, specifically Vollmer and rookie Solder, and the DBs, specifically Devin McCourty and Kyle Arrington). They're just lucky this was a mulligan game and didn't actually count in the L column.

While I won't brush it off as simply preseason, since it does indicate they need to work on a lot of things, I have to remember that the Lions recently went 4-0 in the preseason and sucked, and the Colts routinely lose in the preseason, and in '04 the Bengals kicked the Pats' asses in the preseason, etc.,.

Also, I take solace by thinking (and hoping) that the Lions actually have a very good team this year.
