Say Herrera earholes Cespedes once the game is out of hand. Do you really want your second best reliever suspended (b/c they'd hear that appeal right away) for possibly the 6th and 7th games of the WS?

If a guy is crowding the plate, you back him off. That's baseball. What you don't do is intentionally throw at someone's head (unless it's a Chase Utley situation). I would have had no problems with Ventura giving Wright a purpose pitch in the first, but you don't need to start clogging the bases, either.
The way Ned wastes pitchers, especially tonight, I don't care.

Stop being a pussy, Ned.

BTW, I'd trade Ned for Mike any of the week.

That's something that you can do in the regular season but you can't get players suspended up 2-0 in the World Series. The last thing the Royals need to do right now is focus on shit like that instead of playing baseball. Luckily they've already learned that lesson. This isn't the 1970s where Brett and Nettles get into a fist fight at third base and not get thrown out. Had Ventura thrown at them he would have got tossed. If they clear the dugouts and do anything but bark people get suspended. If shit like that happens it'll be because a team knows they are done. It's about winning a World Series.

Great, the "MLB players can recognize a changeup when it is coming at their head" line.

He flipped out because he was hit near the head in the first, then had to dive away in the third, then got buzzed in the 7th right after Tulo got hit.

But yeah, he shouldn't lose his shit there.

You don't need to escalate the situation, though. Escobar gets buzzed, then buzz Granderson or Wright and leave it at that. Hitting them is likely to instigate further retaliation and you risk suspension or future injury to one of your players.

If Ventura hits Wright on purpose, what's to stop one of the Mets from going inside on Perez? And what happens if he breaks his wrist? Then, not only have you lost this game, but you're likely ****ed for the rest of the series.

Was there anyone on Earth who deserved a fastball to the head more than Adrian Gonzalez in Game 1 of the NLDS last year?

Did he get one?

He knew what he was doing. Just watch how he plays. He did the same thing in the ALCS. He creates a scene at the plate when he wants attention.

And once again, I'm not the one proclaiming innocence. I don't think the Royals are a bunch of innocent choir boys. But I don't have a problem with them standing up for themselves either. Somehow the other team never has any culpability. I openly said in plenty of game threads there were times where the Royals deserved one in the ribs. But almost all of these high profile incidents that people bring up were because guys were trying to mess with the Royals. Only one that wasn't was Ventura being an idiot and going after Trout.

No, the other team does have culpability, and Donaldson is a dick (his interaction w/ the Texas reliever after the near-HR in Game 2 of the LDS is a perfect example, as is his staredown of Martin on the popup in Game 6 of the LCS), but we are in a Royals thread with Royals fans and after a while it stops being an accident when the Royals kept getting into all of that shit. It doesn't mean the Blue Jays aren't assholes themselves, but put yourself in Donaldson's shoes there. Anyone would be torqued.

Again, I thought Ventura did a great job of showing restraint tonight, unlike in Game 6 of the LCS when he was barking at the 1B coach while walking off the field (as your whole dugout was) but Moustakas just reinforced the perception of the Royals that is already out there. Call him a one who sucks the penis once. Tell him to **** off a few times. But let it go after the first inning.

And Volquez throwing a beanball at Donaldson to open a game for a largely contrived reason.

I understand the idea of actually not plunking a guy but the Mets set the tone from the start.

Of course, Ned's continual misuse of his pitchers and bullpen were the ultimate undoing, but having pissed off guys facing Syndergaard didn't help their at bats.

Were they really more pissed off in the third, after they'd hung three runs on him, then they were after the first pitch to Escobar?

The thing that sickened me (or thickened ) was the fans immediately cheering when he threw the pitch at esky. Talk about shitty fans.

I just don't get it. So the guy likes to come out swinging at the first pitch. A pitcher should see that as a challenge and give him a nasty change up to start the game. Its their own fault if they want to throw a fastball down the middle and he hits it.

What that pitcher did was cowardly.
