Just one of the reasons I am not big on downloading firmware updates as soon as they come out. I wish they would stop making the updates required to even get to the store.

I hear you...after hearing about this i may wait initially before downloading future updates until its been out for a week or two.

I did watch a regular dvd just fine the last 2 days and played uncharted for 40 min and it ran fine, so i assume mine is ok.

I do remember my ps3 running fine on 3.0 but i just got 3.01 about 4 days ago

Last time there was a firmware glitch they pulled the DL off pronto and reissued a new one within 48 hours. I hope and assume they do that now.

I recall that. What I don't like is them telling people to just ship it in and hand over $150 though. There will be a lot of ticked off customers if they release a FW patch to correct it.

WHy companies can't just own up to their own problems is beyond me. It took Xbox how long to finally admit their problem. I hope Sony doesn't pull that on its customers.

Now I don't feel like I can put a BD movie in my PS3 for fear of this problem because of the fact it is pretty widespread.

well I do not know what it is. Just wait and see? All I know form history is they know the crap 360 owners go through and are on point to fix anything that might arise on their end due to an update HW issue.

Definitely wait and see. I just didn't like their response to the customers to just ship it in for repair is all. That is just money grubbing IMO. Sometimes I think that they forget how informed the gamer crowd really is.

Do you mean downloading from the store?? I can get to the store and haven't updated yet. I haven't downloaded anything yet. I might download the Uncharted 2 demo tonight and see if it lets me..

He's referring to updating the firmware....i may try a bluray movie this weekend and see if it works, im just worried it might jack it up...i dont know what is the root of the problem, i assume playing a bluray movie causes it? i know that my drakes fortune game worked fine for 40 min last night no freezing and ive watched reg. dvds the past week plus just fine. Hopefully a new update will come out soon

The next game on my purchase list is Uncharted 2. However, I found out that Ninja Gaiden Sigma 2 is out for the PS3. Anyone have any opinions on NGS2 and whether it's worth a pickup? I played the first one up until one of the last levels and then just forgot about it. Game's hard as **** though...yikes....

The major FW updates (3.0) will require you to download them if you want to access the store. The minor updates (3.1) do not require it.

All I know form history is they know the crap 360 owners go through and are on point to fix anything that might arise on their end due to an update HW issue.
