Things are not looking good, guys. Not good at all.
I went back to the market and the audio they play in the store is sent via a satellite feed from their home office. I got the name of the person there (not sure if it's the right person, though) whom the manager said would know how to get a song list. I have phoned three times, left voice mail, and receive no return call, email, or anything. He may think I'm a kook or something. However, I did tell the manager that I would never spend another dime in his stupid, freaking store until I got the answer. He seemed confused about that. Anyway, I haven't listened to any of the stuff you guys have come up with from this post forward. I've been kinda busy. I'll catch up on the thread later tonight or tomorrow morning. Hopefully, one of you guys have found it. I'll keep trying to contact the parent company, though. I shall not rest until this mystery is solved. Meanwhile, thanks for all your help. Again, sorry my clues were so vague. FAX |

So did you like the song or was it only worth remarking on for its unusual qualities?
Or in other words, was it a catchy tune? This has probably already been covered but I don't get out much these days. |

Over.
1. The song is kind of a drone deal utilizing maybe 2 or 3 chords total. -check 2. The vocal is male, predominant, and the singer has a very high tenor range. -check 3. I think I heard some saxophone. Maybe playing in a chorus type deal. - sexophone 4. As I mentioned, only a couple of chords are used and they stay on the same chord for the entire verse except for a chord change at the very end ... this is the unusual part. DEFINITELY THIS 5. I don't recall hearing any percussion, although there may have been some. If so, it was not dominant at all. It's a dramatic, semi-slow tune. Love songish.- no drums, keyboard only, its a love song. 6. The singer's accent could have been British, but it could also be one of those Americans who try to sound British because it's cool. The "R"s were pronounced "Ah"s. check 7. I reckon that the version I heard was probably 4 or 5 minutes long.- just felt that way 8. The meter is slow. Dramatic. Very unique. Not normal. |

This is my best guess Fax. I have thought about it for a while. it's the only newer song that somewhat fits the description.

Just keying in on the description of the singer, I'm wondering if it might be The Decemberists?
May have already been suggested.

Negative, Red Rider.
I'm sorry I haven't kept up with this thread, guys. I think maybe I subconsciously blocked the whole thing out of my mind after I got the bad news. I contacted the parent company and they said there was no way they could provide me with any information regarding their song list. They said it was computer driven and totally random and the entire list would be too difficult to output ... or words to that effect. (They send the muzak via a satellite dish to the individual stores.) So, there is no way I can suss out the song title from an existing list and I can only go by memory at this point. Tomorrow (or the next day) I'll catch up with all the submissions I have yet to hear and respond to ... meanwhile, I'll be soaking my head in a bucket of ice water. Thanks again for all your help ... and my continued, heartfelt apologies for the crummy clues. Someday, I hope, I'll hear the song again. I've only heard it that one time and another listen sure would help. FAX |
