Probalby wouldn't of traded Joey Gathright for JP Howell, among other things. Anybody who says Odalis Perez is a good pickup is a ****ing moron too.
Come on, man. Baird had six years and three managers and did nothing. Yeah, he was doing it the only way he knew how, but that clearly wasn't going to be good enough.

There's no reason to think, to this point, that Gathright for Howell was a bad trade. It took Howell until the beginning of this month to even get back to the Bigs in the freakin' Tampa Bay organization. Gathright's speed is second to none in the league. He can play the corner outfield spots and get on base, and when he does get on, he's a virtual lock to get into scoring position.

Odalis Perez cost next to nothing. They gave up Elmer Dessens, a journey-man reliever, for a middle of the rotation starter with a history of success. There's no way that was a bad trade. None.

This franchise is fortunate to have parted with Baird, let alone hire Dayton Moore in return.

Exactly.

And BTW, when the Cardinals played the Royals in the '85 World Series, I rooted for the Royals. And if they would ever play in another World Series, I'd still root for the Royals. When push comes to shove, I will never root against a Kansas City team.

But that's not really an issue any more. And that has nothing to do with me or the Cardinals. It's not our fault Glass destroyed the team.

I have found that they get rather defensive when you ask them how many World Series they've been in since 1985. I may have even been on the offensive when saying that. I won't lie.

Does it suck for me that the Cards are so bad this year? Of course. I won't deny that it's embarrassing. But until the final out of the 2007 World Series, they are THE CHAMPIONS. I got two tickets to a Cards/Cubs game at Wrigley in August for my birthday. When I go, I'll be wearing the colors of the defending champions. Win or lose, that can't be taken away.
Great. So you root for both. How convenient.

You're right. The Cardinals won the World Series fair and square last year. And no one can take that away. Just because the 2006 Cardinals will go down as one of the worst World Series champions of all time, but that sill doesn't take the trophy a way. But regardless, all that makes, or at least should make, this year that much more emarrassing.

You're also right that there should be no bitterness. Until the final out of the XXXX World Series if/when the two teams play again, the Royals own the Cardinals, no matter what happens in any other meeting between the two teams.

And another thing - I used to go watch the Royals play at least a couple of times a year - either at Comiskey or in Milwaukee back before the Brewers switched leagues. I finally quit going because I got sick of watching them LOSE EVERY SINGLE GODDAMN GAME I went to. Seriously, the only Royals game I've attended in person for the last decade that they didn't lose was a friggin rain out. Hell, the last time I went to a game at U.S. Cellular, the White Sox fans FELT SORRY FOR ME. Do you know how much you have to suck before those goons express sympathy? I just couldn't take it anymore.

I don't need my team to win a Championship every year - if that was the case, I wouldn't root for any of my teams (Chiefs, Cards, Royals, Tigers), who have between them won a combined ONE championship in the past two decades. But I do require them to show up. And they all generally show up except for the Royals.

Actually, the Royals have been doing a pretty good job of 'showing up' the Cardinals lately.

Blow me.

Some of you people act like New Yorkers. There is a whole vast fucking state out there beyond the borders of Kansas City. And I happened to grow up right the middle of it.

BOTH TEAMS were on TV. Pretty much equally.
BOTH TEAMS got press coverage. Again, fairly equal.
BOTH TEAMS were good.
AND THEY NEVER PLAYED EACH OTHER.

UNTIL I WAS TWENTY YEARS OLD.

I feel like I'm trying to explain chess to my cat here. Why is this so difficult to understand?

21 years, no division titles, no playoff appearances = not showing up.

I wish it wasn't the case, but it is.

And again, this has nothing to do with the St. Louis Cardinals.

I have no disrespect for the Cards or some of their fans. Hell one of my best friends is a Cards fans. But alot of cards fans are arrogant and jackasses. That fuels my hatred for the city because of it.

Let's answer your question with a question: Why is it so difficult to pick a team?

Your other posts on this thread and others have already pegged you as a Cardinals fan. That's fine. Stick with it. Nobody is going to hold it against you. You grew up in Missouri. It makes sense.

So why don't you do yourself a favor and drop the Royals as one of your favorite teams, instead of dragging them through the mud then rationalizing your insults with the "They suck. But it's OK, I can say that, I'm a fan!" bullshit?
