A rare case of subtraction by addition. We've lost our great defensive coordinator in favor of a shitty head coach. That's okay, though, we wouldn't want to screw up continuity with a 7-9 team.

Well, we'd change offensive systems. He's a West Coast guy. Given how bad our offense was, that's probably not a big deal, though.

The thing I hate about this hire is the way the Chiefs (Pioli) went about it. Why do you go on your website to deny that Crennel is hired and then go and hire him two days later? WTF is it with the secrecy out of the front office. They have to have the blinds drawn on office windows while practice is gone. Doors are locked and the media needs to be escorted to the bathroom during a presser. I know he thinks it gives us a competitive advantage but I'm seeing it has the opposite effect on the franchise. You keep the fans in the dark which creates resentment from your fanbase. You have the media that can't get any of these secrets so they go wild with accusations. I hate the fact that Pioli had a covert media campaign to make Haley look bad so that he could fire him, like the play on the field wasn't enough to do so.

it would be a shame for Pioli to he forced to admit the trade for him was a disaster.

I remember seeing an interview with Clark back when Lamar was still alive but Clark had sort of taken over team operations...he said that the Pittsburgh Steelers were the team model that he most admired.
The biggest hallmark of that organization is stability. They don't panic if they have a bad year, they find the problem and fix it. They draft well, year in and year out. They don't sign the flashy, expensive, big name free agents. They tend to let their own stars go when they get to that 3rd contract (which is generally the point at which production starts to wane but salary hasn't yet). Because of their stability, they've always got replacement players in the wings. They got their franchise QB a few years back. He was the guy they wanted, and they went and got him. Before that, they were in the hunt every year, but couldn't get over the hump. The only Steelers World Championships came with Franchise Quarterbacks: Terry Bradshaw and Ben Roethlisberger. I think Clark is smart enough to see that. I also think he gets that stability is the key to consistency; you can't have new coaches and all new systems every couple of years. You have to pick a path and stick to it. Look at Alex Smith-the biggest problem with that kid (and he was a consensus #1) is that he's had a new OC with a different system every friggin' year. You need a stable, consistent environment for your young players to reach their potential. Romeo is the right guy right now. The defense is clearly improved and ascending. You don't want to scrap the 3-4 and start over with some different scheme. Stay the course and get better. It is very important that Romeo hires a solid offensive coordinator and solid defensive coordinator, and that those guys be younger, ascending coaches because one of them, in three or four years, is going to succeed him much like Mike Tomlin in Pittsburgh. |

See? this is why you shouldn't run an NFL franchise. Clearly, this is not their best team. They still have a franchise QB. They need an influx of talent in certain areas, but they'll still be a serious contender in 2012, right? Yes. They absolutely will. |

I don't mind Crennel as HC, but my fear is the same with not drafting a QBotf and going with him even if we do. Crennel is about retire age and am sure he wants to win now and that mostly means a retread QB to start the season aka Cassel or Orton. They both suck and do not want on Chiefs.
Cassel sucks in epic proportions, Otorn will be good one week, bad another week and fugly another week then good again giving him more weeks to play. "Sucks to be us" as Chiefs fans with either of them at QB.

but that Franchise QB lost to a team with a QB most experts say is the worst in the league. (but thats not true, Cassel is)

I fully expect Cassel to be the guy next year. Having said that, if the Packers were dumb enough not to franchise and trade Flynn, I'd like to cut Cassel, not pursue Orton and sign Flynn (only if he goes to free agency) and draft another QB. Open competition with Stanzi and draftee for the number 2. I would change my tune on the Romeo hire if they simply did something akin to this.
