I agree that it shouldn't.

But Veach didn't even mention S as a possibility in the 1st, and he did mention CB. I don't think it's a coincidence that the positions he didn't mention were QB, IOL, S, LB, and RB.

They just don't seem to value the position too highly, and they have what is arguably a full room. I can see them adding one, but I don't think it will be in the 1st. I think CB is more likely.

I also don't think Starks is going to make it to 31 anyways, but like I said with Campbell, sure that would at least be a possibility if he fell. Still don't think they're taking either position and both guys are gone.

I don't necessarily disagree with you there.

The caveat being that Starks could easily be one of the handful of '1st round grades' they have in this draft. And if they only have 13 guys with that grade and one of 'em makes it to 31, position isn't gonna matter much to them.

It's like DT in that regard -- I don't think they put a lot of value on the position (for now) but I also think that if Nolan or Harmon get to them, they'd take 'em because the value of the player overrides their relative indifference to the position.

And just like adding Pennell won't make a difference in that line of thinking, I don't think adding Edwards will either.

It's just a pure talent pick from their perspective rather than one based on position. Especially when they use their safeties as swiss army knives -- if they'd be interested in a CB with that pick, they'd be interested in Starks as well if he were there. Because of what he would free them up to do with the rest of the DBs on the roster.

Bart Varch couldn't be more different than all of his predecessors. He plays one hell of a game of poker. Not a sole knows his hand, but he plays itbetter than anybody has at One Arrowhead Drive. He's always a canidate to move up, and I'm sure they've played a hundred scanarios of how they're going to handle multiple situations. I guarantee he's already called half a dozen (or more) GM's around the league of compensation if we want to move up or down. Every year we think we have it figured out, and he throws a curveball (Mahomes over Watson). He hits far more frequently than misses and as a result, keeps us as a legit top contender year after year

I’d be okay with that. Dream scenario in that case would be Sanders falling to the end of the first round and someone overpaying to come back into the first round and giving us an extra 2nd or 3rd.

Also okay with an OT — the value proposition is so high and with Taylor being in his last year I can see the need even if new guy works out at LT.

Really anyone who is a solid player is A-OK by me. They’ll take a DE, DT, CB, S, TE, OL, and maybe a RB.

For the Chiefs to trade out, someone is going to have to trade up.

I very much doubt the Chiefs trade out of the 1st round.

Possible, I think there are a number of teams that may be willing. I just do not think Veech likes to move back, especially with his first pick. I think he rather get the best pllayer available and take his chances. It is always a gamble that you lose that player.

Having that fifth year option might be too enticing for a team if they really have their heart set on a certain guy that slips to the end of the round, so anything is possible. Veach himself said he'd rather be aggressive than trade back, but if the price is right? I don't anticipate him trading back, but I guess we'll see.

Schefter said today that the Saints are really interested in Jaxon Dart and are very interested in moving up at the end of rd 1.

Ravens did this to get Lamar in 2018. Sent a 5th and a future 2nd for the Eagles to move down from 32 to 52. Saints are at 40 so it would probably be a 5th and a future 2nd.

If the board is bare and we are stuck like 2023 I’d take that deal

I don’t love the idea of giving up the rookie 5th round option, but given the talent at 31 and 40 is roughly equal this year, I think a trade like that would be worth it.
