Big 10 Report: Conference Realignment

A source in St. Louis familiar with the situation told NewsCenter 16 Thursday afternoon that Missouri will leave the Big XII and soon join the Big 10. Other schools expected to follow the Tigers are Syracuse, Pitt, Rutgers and Nebraska.

Many have speculated that such an expansion would include Notre Dame but ND athletic director Jack Swarbrick told me today that the Irish prefer to stay independent in football and in the Big East for other sports. Swarbrick said maintaining football Independence is such a part of what Notre Dame is.

He went on to say the Big East is a great partner for the University in other sports.

"We do have to monitor what is going on," Swarbrick said. "There will be significant shifts. "Hopefully we can navigate them by keeping our football independent and keeping our Big East affiliation because that is what we care about."

The move of Syracuse, Pitt and Rutgers to the Big Ten from the Big East could categorically change the landscape of the Big East itself. Thus, what Swarbrick is referring to when stating the University must continue to monitor what is going on.

The interview with Swarbrick was done before the late afternoon announcement.

They'll be endless, until it's official.

But man, you talk about smoke...

All the "ultimatum" has done is speed up the process, in my mind. Texas probably did Mizzou and Nebraska a favor by pushing the issue.

There's a reason that after the Big XII meetings only two people spoke. The Big XII commish, and the Texas Prez. Beebe's a puppet. Texas is running the whole show, and those without a better option are kneeling to kiss the ring.. or worse.

Yeah, I'm sure Notre Dame is cool with that.... "Okay, so we'll agree to join the Big 10, as long as you promise to expand more later"

I don't see why ND would join in that situation... it would be crazy though. Michigan, Nebraska, and Notre Dame in the same conference... SSSOOOO much history, and at least 50 minutes per hour of GameDay dedicated to Big 10 football.

Everyone is stating what they're hoping as fact so that, if it ends up being true, they can say they broke the story. I'm gonna wait until it's official. I figure it won't be until Friday.

98% on my first terminology quiz, 100% on my first spelling quiz, and 100% on any homework that's actually been graded. I'm up to about 31 wpm typing.

I only had about an hour's worth of homework that I didn't get done in class. She usually gives us the first hour to work on whatever. I tend to do typing and filing during that hour, as people talk and type. She usually dismisses class at 9:45, but she has to be there until 10:30. I typically stay when most others leave. I use the quiet time to work on preparing interviews for studies, as they require more thought.

Shut it. I actually type faster when I combine what I've learned with how I already type incorrectly.

That's good... I was wondering how that worked, with such long classes 4 nights a week. Sounds like you have plenty of time to get stuff done in class so it doesn't take up every waking moment.

If KU is going to end up anywhere other than the Big12, I would want it to be the ACC.

If Kansas joins the MWC, I'm killing myself. If they go independent in basketball (which won't happen) and MWC in football, I'm chopping off an arm. If Missouri and Nebraska go to the Big 10 and at least two teams from the Big East go too, then the Big 12 should invite New Mexico, Louisville, Cincinnati, UNLV/Nevada/Houston/Baylor/Rice/Memphis/Utah/TCU etc. If that happens, actually the conference is in better shape than before.

Kansas
Iowa State
Oklahoma
Oklahoma State
Texas
Texas A&M
Texas Tech
Kansas State

New Mexico
Louisville
Cincinnati
Colorado
Baylor
Utah
Nevada
TCU

A little uneven in football for the North and South, but you get the idea.
