Chiefs Peyton Manning to visit Denver TONIGHT to meet with Donks - Page 13

Peyton Manning will be in Denver tonight visiting with the Broncos, according to two NFL sources.

This is getting serious, folks.

Manning, arguably the most decorated free agent in NFL history, has the Broncos on his short list. The long-time Indianapolis Colts quarterback was released earlier this week amid concerns about his neck, a $26 million bonus payment and the team's opportunity to select highly prized quarterback Andrew Luck with the No. 1 pick in the upcoming NFL draft.

Manning, 36, has been cleared to throw by his neck specialist, Dr. Robert Watkins. One NFL source said Manning will also visit the Arizona Cardinals and Miami Dolphins after visiting with the Broncos. A source said Manning would like to make a decision by Tuesday, the first day of free agency.

The Broncos' top brass of John Elway, coach John Fox and general manager Brian Xanders, are currently in Stillwater, Okla., watching the Oklahoma State Pro Day workout that features quarterback Brandon Weeden.

The Broncos have the No. 25 pick in the draft, plus the 25th selection in the second round. Weeden, who turns 29 in October, is considered the second-best passer to Luck in the draft and has been projected to go between the Broncos' top two picks.

Manning will turn 36 in two weeks.

I'd rather have us be the last to meet with Manning, than the first. As others have said, usually the first place you visit is to hear indications of interest and ranges of compensation. You make courtesy stops in the beginning. Elway is owed a courtesy.

Having said that, ego being what it is, would Manning want to go to a town that is owned by a HoF QB? Denver is Elway land, nothing will impact that. Miami is Marino Land. Peyton can't change that in 2-3 years. But then, is KC Lenny Land?

I think he probably goes to Miami anyway; but, I don't rule us out as a serious contender.

Lenny's great, but in no way does he loom over this franchise the way Elway and Marino loom over theirs.

Yeah, quite a few of those were TT running around and taking a sack... one could argue that a pure drop back passer like PM would not have had 1/2 that number of sacks.

He'll grab the cash from Bowlen then jump out the emergency door with his parachute bringing him to a safe landing on the 50 yard line in Arrowhead Stadium! Nothing like sticking it to the donks and taking them for a little cash before signing with the Chiefs!

It’s unknown at this point whether Manning will be throwing for the Broncos, the Cardinals, or any other team. With each passing day that he doesn’t, we become more curious as to whether he hopes to sign a new contract without having to do so.

In his only game at University of Phoenix Stadium, in 2009, Manning completed 24 of 35 passes for 379 yards, four touchdowns, one interception, and a passer rating of 130.5.

I've thought since the reports Denver would have an interest that he would end up there. The whole Elway mystique would mean more to Manning than money. Coming to a team that just had a high-profile divorce with their coach is probably the last thing Manning wants.
