Who stood out in tonight's game?

I wasn't able to watch it, but I heard about Maclin. About time we have a player that won't take any shit. How did Tyreek do? Who else stood out? Thanks.

You have to give those young players some time...a few games and then judge.

You see Conley, he was invisible in the first preseason game and then people say he was the standout performer in the second preseason game.

I for one think March, despite not performing well yesterday, would be a better option next to DJ than Mauga this year.

I think cooper has gotten a spot at corner latched. He's been one of surprises to me at corner

I will shamelessly toot my own horn when he makes the roster, there is a lotta potential with him, he just got thrown into the deep end too early

You take a naturally strong kid who has not been serious about weights and then put him on a disciplined program you will see the biggest gain within the shortest amount of time and 30-40% gain within a 3-5 month period is very doable and that is for anyone whether they are naturally strong or not. You are assuming he is already a "weight monster" in the weight room. I am not based on the combine and his play.

Did you see what he did not do at the combine ? He did not perform the bench press, 3 cone drill, 20yd shuttle. Said he had a shoulder issue(bench press) and also a hammy issue but still ran the 40. Looks to me like he was hiding his lack of strength and quickness in open space blocking because he already knows his numbers are inferior to what is expected at the NFL level in order to be successful. He was protecting his draft stock IMHO and was probably directed to do so by his agent. Shoulder ? Hammy? Really?

Here are his weaknesses according to the NFL.com site

WEAKNESSES Core strength is below desired level and he can be jarred by a hard punch. Unable to drive his one*-on-one block off the spot and and is poor at sustaining his run blocks. Plays with dead legs in space and change of direction is not functional. Opens up early against edge rush and gives away inside rush lane to counter moves. Marginal anchor. Feet and punch aren’t properly timed up.

Notice what is in bold and why he did not perform the bench,3 cone drill and 20yd shuttle. He is not strong enough or agile/quick enough in space as of yet.

STRENGTHS Sets up in pass pro with balanced base and good posture. Keeps chin tucked and isn’t caught leaning very often. Wall off run blocker. Plays with good instincts and sees twists and blitzes as they develop. Four-year letterman along offensive line that was one of the better pass protection units during his time there.

As everyone has stated this guy is pure technician, he just needs to be a stronger,quicker/agile technician in space.

Don't get me wrong, I'm a huge fan of this kid and think he has big upside and I really do hope he succeeds and I assure you the strength coach has had him in the weight room since mini-camps and we should start seeing a difference by mid-to late season.

I disagree entirely.

I would keep his snaps limited and build throughout the season. If Bailey/Howard/Poe gets hurt and he has to start then **** it, fine.

If not, the benefits to getting him into a limited (but consistent) role before the end of the season are much higher than tossing him in the water without a life jacket.

Then again, I'm a big believer of being keeping one and three techs fresh for PS play.

Notice how Maclin and Conley both run the same route but Maclin just blows him out of the water.

We still have a big drop off after WR1 it seems.

Oh I guarantee you it will happen during the season, because dollars to donuts it's in his contract as incentives to reach a particular upper body and lower body strength by a particular time period. GuaRONteeed if I'm the GM writing up this contract knowing his weaknesses !!

yea, except for the fact that Conley ran the route to get the safety to come up and open up the deep half for Maclin. If Conley runs it full speed then we have both receivers and all the defenders in the same location, it's a disaster.

That wasn't a case of Conley being slower, it was the scheme.

Smith to Maclin
Good find. What we don't know is if Conley actually dogged it a little bit on that play or Maclin is that much quicker at quick twitch burst than Conley. But good find and I'm sure if Conley was dogging it, the coaches will see what you found.

That's a good point too. Maclin definitely hits the afterburner after the safety came into his vision covering Conley.
