Alex was good the first 3 years here but with it being year 4 in the system and the pieces around him, he's in a decline.

There's no way he's here again next year.

Grbac was a douche but he would absolute be money with the offensive talent the Chiefs have now.

I think this Chiefs team is good...really, really good.

However, I think we would be legendarily good if we had a better QB. Historically good.

I hope these guys on this Chiefs team get a chance at a SB. God dammit, they deserve it.

I know that Smith is the easier target for you and others to blame. I also know that.. just like most/all QBs.. they do have limitations and weaknesses.

... but Alex is the guy Andy wanted.. and wants.. even after he brought in his old buddy Foles. Why? because Alex is doing what his HC wants.

This QB is simply an extension of his HC's will.
The problem with your argument is Alex Smith has played this same limited way for his entire career.

Has Alex Smith simply been an extension of his HC's ultra conservative game plans for his entire 11 year career? A career that has included many different HC's and offensive coordinators?

Or do all of these coaches recognize Alex Smith's extreme limitations and adjust accordingly?

Probably, but if you look at it from simply the financial side it makes it easy to see.

The stats and games Alex has had this year, minus maybe 1 or 2, could likely be replicated by a cheaper rookie qb.

Alex still does some positive good things, but at his price tag, you need more.

Thinking a out it this way, if they could get say, DeShaun Watson in the 1st round, they could use Smith's money to keep berry and Poe and possibly a key free agent or something.

You do realize that this year's Chiefs team is basically winning the exact same way that the 1995 team won in the regular season, correct? Timely turnovers/defensive and special teams TD's that masked weak QB play.

It blew up in the playoffs.

The chiefs were rumored to be all around the qbs in last year's draft, then there were the ones from this year about the last half of the year being Smith's evaluation and looking at next year etc.

Add to that they can get out of the salary this offseason and it's not tough to read the tea leaves

He wasn't always ultra conservative. Not until Mike Nolan destroyed his shoulder. Then Mike Singletary refused to let him throw, and then Harbaugh instilled the conservative approach. Alex Smith his second season under Norv Turner was very aggressive.
