Id trade Smith for Carr or Bridgewater, but thats just because Im not a fan of trying to build a contender around a limited game manager. SO many things have to go perfect for that to work. The PLAYOFFS exposes teams that try to do this. (There are a couple exceptions but history says your doing it the hard way). The most important position on the field and you hope you can build such a great team everywhere else that mediocrity at the QB position wont matter.
This is why the 9ers went with Kaep. It may not work out. Carr and Bridgewater may not work out, but rarely does attempting to build a contender around a known game manager caliber QB ever work out. Smith should be a nice quality stop gap, not the answer at QB for a team that thinks its a true contender. |

Derek Carr threw for 351 yards and 3 TD today. That's his second career 300-yard game.
Alex Smith has 4 300-yard games in his ENTIRE CAREER.

Seriously. His YPC was 11.7... WITH a 68 Yard anomaly. That's good for only 13th in the league last year. His 3rd down rate today is unsustainable and he will never get more penalty yards this entire season. This was his super bowl and he almost blew it. Enjoy it, Carr fans.

How many yards did he have today? The last time the Chiefs won a mother****ING playoff game, how many yards did the QB throw for?

Meanwhile, the guy who won the Super Bowl that year passed for about 200 yds/game in the regular season. |

I bring this up every time we have this discussion, but again, GoChiefs wants to troll.
Last season, QB's who threw for 400 yards were 3-8. Since 2006, QB's who throw for 400 yards are 42-69. I have no problem wanting a QB who can light it up, and not someone who is ultra careful like Smith, I get the argument...but there is no direct correlation between passing yardage and winning consistently. |
