2009 Kansas City Royals Repository.

All Royals All The Time!

After consultation with others who peruse the game threads we decided to create this as a repository for all things Royals. Minor league news, AL (ahem) Central (thanks Vonne) news and anything Royals can be found here.

alnorth will continue the game threads as usual. But if you locate something of interest.. ANYTHING.. deals on apparel, best ways in/out of the stadium, giveaways, great stories from this season or from seasons gone by, rumors, trades, anything.... feel free to post it here.

If a big story breaks, you can still start a thread about it. There is merely an all inclusive thread that will make a easy for us all to keep up with all things Royals.

Welcome! "Grab a Brew... don't cost nuthin"...[spills beer on feet]

Look, if he couldn't hit but was a defensive stud and great at pitch calling, etc that would be one thing.

The really sad part to this.......

can you imagine Moore on the phone with the agent for free agents such as Guerrero, Holliday, or Matsui.....

"....the media in the midwest leaves you alone.....the K has some nice upgrades.......we have the reigning AL Cy Young winner.....AND...we just signed Jason Kendall!!!!"

What a ****ing joke.

Jason ****ING Kendall? Are you ****ing kidding me Dayton Moore, you worthless ****?

Jesus Christ, I'd rather have Olivo back over ****ing Kendall.

Now watch the ****ing baserunners steal like crazy against Kendall.

What a ****ing waste of a roster space.

A small comparison between Buck, Olivo, and Kendall…

Jason Kendall –The last two years 282 games played, 2490 innings, 8 passed balls, .314 caught stolen percentage with 119 total stolen bases.

Miguel Olivo, over the same period – 161 games, 1340 innings, 14 passed balls, .352 caught stolen percentage, 75 stolen bases against.

John Buck 153 games over 2 years, 1317 innings, 6 passed balls, .166 caught stolen base percentage with a total of 100 stolen bases against.

The Royals will miss the HRs from Olivo and Buck but the batting averages are close to the same.

The savings for the Royals will be in money. John Buck would probably be $3.5 million with arbitration and Olivo could be $3 million and Jason Kendall will be around $2 million.

Except Kendall signed a 2 year deal at 6 million, that is 3 mil a year. No savings at all.

KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- Jason Kendall agreed Friday to a $6 million, two-year contract with the Kansas City Royals and is expected to become their everyday catcher.

Kendall is a .290 hitter over his 14-year career. The 35-year-old was an All-Star in 1996, 1998 and 2000 but hit just .241 with two homers and 43 RBIs last season with the Milwaukee Brewers.

He has 376 career doubles, 177 stolen bases and a .369 on-base percentage in a career that has included stops in Pittsburgh, Oakland and with the Chicago Cubs. Kendall also has been hit by 248 pitches, fifth most all-time.

He gets $2.25 million next year and $3.75 million in 2011. He can earn an additional $250,000 each season in performance bonuses.

The Royals did not offer a contract to Miguel Olivo, who led the team last year with 23 home runs, and aren't expected to re-sign backup catcher John Buck.

Kansas City also signed six players to minor league deals, including left-hander Bruce Chen.

The 32-year-old Chen made 17 appearances for the Royals last season, including nine starts, going 1-6 with a 5.78 ERA. He is 36-43 since debuting with the Atlanta Braves in 1998.

Right-hander Devon Lowery, a former prospect who missed all of last season with a shoulder injury, also signed a deal. Lefty Adam Bostick signed with the Royals after spending three seasons in the New York Mets system, as did first baseman Ernesto Mejia, right-hander Francisco Rosario and veteran catcher Vance Wilson.

Those six were among the 16 players invited to spring training on Friday.

He is awful. If he's above the Mendoza line, it would be a success.

I just realized that we are paying this guy close to what Buck would have probably got the next two years in arbitration. On what planet is Kendall a better player than Buck? 10 years ago sure, but in 2010?

Betancourt, Getz, Kendall, Guillen, and some random dude at CF. Gee, there's a lineup the other pitchers will fear.

I know we arent looking to compete this year and we got minor leaguers coming (hopefully soon), but while we wait for that, this offense is going to be hilariously bad.
