Now maybe the restaurants in KC can try and figure out that sweet tea thing.
They banned smoking in ALL public places (bars and resturants).

In fact, it was interesting, because the tobacco companies financed an intersting effort to impact the election.

I was sure that they were going to win with it.

The citizens groups put the first ballot iniative on that said ban all smoking in public places including bars.

The tobacco companies themselves then came in and sponsored a 2nd ballot initiative that put a legal in bars, but not resturants option on the ballot.

They were hoping to dilute the fist one with the 2nd one.

They were effectively giving up on resturaunts. I guess that wasn't a big deal at all for them.

I was sure that this was going to work, but it didn't.

I think both passed overwhelmingly (like 70+% each) and thus the stricter one took effect anyway (because it got more votes anyway).

I guess I will chime in here. I am for bans anywhere kids might be going. I don't care if you allow it in bars or anyplace thats 18+ I just don't want my kids around it and I avoid any place that I smell it when with my kids.

as the numbers of smokers gets smaller and smaller the impact economically from a ban is of no consequence.

BS...smoking doesn't fall under PC.

IMO, it's more indicitive of a fractured family sructure of citizens parenting each other, built on years of mistrust...we can't give each other the benefit of the doubt to do the right thing, so we implement it for them.

I was at Nick and Jake's last night and there where about 15 people all cuddled up smoking away on the sidewalk. That shit aint cute when it's cold out.

I am a big fan of the ban because you can actually go out and have a couple of drinks with the guys after work at a nice place without leave smelling like a chimney when you get home. When you've got a GF to come home to it's nice not geting the the The Grand Inquisition about it or in my case not inviting her. She really doesn't care what I generally do, and loves going out with me, but it's nice to not even have to have the conversation and the jokingly all night guilt trip of not inviting her (even though we all know they would 't go anyway). She's great though, some of my friends have to keep it like a "State Secret" if they go out without telling their wives or girlfriend's. I don't know how they put up with that.

I feel bad for the bar owners, and I'm sure it sucks for smokers, but I think it's a good deal for the general pulic. I saw a thing on the news the other night where bar owners where getting interviewed. They said they've seen a big increase in families coming in the evening that use to avoid it because of the smoke. Maybe that will balance it out for the bar owners. Regardless though the people that smoke will still go to the bars. If I smoked ban or no ban I'd still go outside just out of respect for the people around me. I just think it's rude as hell to watch a smoker just let his cigarette sit right in the face of somebody sitting next to them. Sitting at a blackjack table is the worst. I use to smoke when I'd be drinking when I was younger, but always tried to be respectful of the people around me.

So what parts of KC have smoking bans now? Is it just Johnson County or is Jackson County also doing it? Are bars/clubs included or is it just restaurants?

I don't know about clubs, but it applies to all restuarant/bars (810 Zone, Tanners etc...) I live in Leawood and I know it's banned there, Lenexa, Overland Park, and almost 100% sure Olathe. So I am assuming it's a Johnson County thing. Also heard that the pro smoking people where going to try and get this on the April ballot for the public to vote on. I'd have a hard time believing it would get reversed. Every body I've talked to is thrilled about it.

Thanks. I was reading the KC Star online and saw that they are doing the same thing in Blue Springs. When they put it on the state ballot here about 5 years ago, it passed with an approval rate of over 75% so I don't see it being overturned even if it makes it on the ballot.

I love smoking bans. I can't stand breathing in someones second hand smoke and shouldn't have to. My Dad smoked for most of my like and when he quit he was amazed how bad smokers smelled.

Frazoid is the one throwing out terms like that. He can be excused. He has no idea what it means nor how it would or wouldn't apply. Its ok though, his head is probably about to explode after the Chargers win.

No need to pay much attention to him anyway, he is emotional.

You'd like it if that was true, wouldn't you? Sorry. Just calling a spade a spade.

And I was actually quite happy that the Chargers won. Add that to the long list of things you're wrong about, dickhead.
