Sales I get. the dude is top shelf. But the others that have followed have given them chance to hammer pitches and they have just failed. I guess its the ebb and flow of the season?

Who cares?

HAPPY JOSEDAY, EVERYBODY!!!!!!

Cardinals fan or not, any baseball fan should be jacked as !@#$ about Fernandez coming back. That guy is pure joy and raw talent on the diamond. First game back from TJ he puts up a quality start, a 1.16 WHIP and a 6/0 K/BB ratio. Oh, and he hit a leadoff homer to spark a 4 run 5th that left in him line for the W.

Man he's a joy to watch.

Works for me.

I'd give a ton for Jose Fernandez.

Carlos Martinez, Alex Reyes and Stephen Piscotty? Yeah, I think I'd do that. The only possible reason I wouldn't is that I'm trading 2 arms for 1 and with attrition rates among pitchers being what they are, you're usually better off throwing numbers as the problem.

I still love me some Jose...

I'd move reyes for that type of player, absolutely.

I've thought about packaging up reyes and whoever to go find a solution at first base.

Put Piscotty at 1b before you even consider moving Reyes for one.

I mean hell, what kind of 1b do you expect to get back for Reyes? The young 1b landscape is either way too good (Rizzo) or way too unproven. There is a massive shortage of young 1b available.

And under no circumstances do you trade Reyes for a 2-3 WAR player, which is where most 1b end up, even the solid hitters, because the lack of defensive value. The only way that makes even a modicum of sense is if you're trading for a guy with 4-5 years of team control still.

I honestly can't come up with a single guy that hits the sweet spot on an Alex Reyes deal. You're not getting Goldschmidt, Rizzo or Freeman. Somebody like Brandon Belt isn't worth Reyes. You're not really looking at someone like Yonder Alonso or Mitch Moreland at that level, are you? Hell, even a guy like Moreland is 30 in September and only has 2 years left of team control (both arb years).

There isn't a 'solution' at 1b, at least not one that should cost anywhere remotely approaching Alex Reyes.

I think some folks are treating Reyes like he's Marco Gonazlez or Rob Kaminsky. Nope. The guy is crazy talented. He's not 'package with' material for just about anybody in this league.

To be honest with you, I was thinking goldschmidt but I don't think there's anyway he would ever get moved.

I did bring up Alonso here a few days ago, not for reyes, but if the pads decided to sell, I'd see what they'd take for him

Goldschmidt is Pujols-good right now, under contract WAY below market for 4 more years and he's what, 27? Was there a package of players you'd have accepted for Albert Pujols when he was 27 yrs old? Ironically enough, we also had Albert locked up for 4 years at below market when he was 27. He won the MVP at 28 and 29, came in 2nd at 30, 5th at 31 (and won another WS).

Even in hindsight, can you assemble a package of players in a single system built around an A ball pitcher that you'd go back in time and accept for a 27 yr old Albert Pujols? Because that's what you're talking about here.

C'mon - Goldy ain't obtainable.
