Okay, so I'd have to go back to the 2007 Dodgers and build:

Clayton Kershaw (19, very nice start to his season in A ball)
Matt Kemp (22, had one nice half-season at the big league level)
Kenley Jansen (19 yr old catcher struggling in A ball)

With the benefit of perfect hindsight, that's what it would take me to give up what we got from Pujols. Without that benefit, is there any chance in hell you'd have taken that trade at the time? I suspect there is not.

People would have been pissed. An MVP for some prospects? 2 under 20 in ****ING A BALL? How many under 20 prospects actually live up to their potential?

No way the D-Backs give up Goldy even if we gave them every one of our top 100 prospects.

Why not? He was a 3B until the Cardinals made him a OF because we were good on 3B. Don't the skills at 3B translate to 1B well?

We need a solution at 1B and Adams isn't it.

SUMOFABEETCH it wasn't just a couple of low level 20 somethings.

Cardinals fired their scouting director after he admits to hacking the Astros database.

http://www.stltoday.com/sports/baseb...tured_headline

Correa has admitted hacking into a Houston Astros database but said it was only to verify whether the Astros had stolen proprietary data, according to a source with knowledge of the investigation.

Correa did not leak any Astros data, and is not responsible for additional hacks that the FBI has alleged occurred or leaking any data, said the source.

Ironically enough, we also had Albert locked up for 4 years at below market when he was 27. He won the MVP at 28 and 29, came in 2nd at 30, 5th at 31 (and won another WS).

Even in hindsight, can you assemble a package of players in a single system built around an A ball pitcher that you'd go back in time and accept for a 27 yr old Albert Pujols? Because that's what you're talking about here.

C'mon - Goldy ain't obtainable.
Would I or the Cardinals? No. Theres no reason for the Dbacks to either, but I was just throwing out a name of a first baseman that I'd entertain.

With our ability to find pitching, you could twist my arm and probably have your pick of Martinez, Wacha, Reyes, kaminsky and whoever else for Goldschmidt.

So if the pads did become sellers and made Alonso available, what would it take to go get him?

He couldn't get the offspeed within 2 feet of the zone.

Y'know what they call a steady stream of 89 mph fastballs? BP. Except for one night in July when they call it the Home Run Derby.

He'll give up 10 if he doesn't at least get a show-me breaking ball put together soon because you're not going to live off your fastball at 89. But hey, at least that's better than the 86 he was throwing last time up.

The kid's 24. Sure, he's never going to be a premier pitcher, but he's a PCL All-Star this year with a WHIP of .9 and a K/BB over 4.

His stuff isn't electric, but neither is Marco's. He just looks nervous as hell out there, that's all. He just chucked another breaker to the backstop - he seems terrified.

You don't pitch as well as he's pitched in the PCL this year without some ability. Moreover, we've not seen nearly enough from him at this level to close the door on him at 24 yrs old. If he's scared, you know he's not following through completely on his pitches and that will lead to guiding balls like crazy. I completely believe that's why he was throwing 86 last time - too scared to cut loose.

His scouting reports read 90-91 and I saw him do the same in a spring training game last season. There's more to him than what we're seeing, IMO. He just really needs to get his nerves under control.

Maybe. I'll definitely concede to you on that.

I don't know what the end game is for him, but he's always had good #s at Memphis iirc
