I've been wondering why we Mizzou fans don't have one of these.

Wasn't Denmon a 3-star recruit?

Colorado hit on Burks. He wasn't a highly-touted guy, but it's Anderson's job to know when there's a diamond in the rough. He should have at least been on his radar enough to pull him away from Colorado when he started to blow up.

There are plenty of reasons for missing out on those guys, but there are no excuses.

As far as I'm concerned, Anderson will always have a team somewhere in the 20-40 range. He was the right man for the job when we hired him. He's left the program better than he found it, and I appreciate that. Other than a fluke elite-eight run, he is what he is.
Colorado got lucky with Burks. No other way around it. Missouri, kansas and kansas State all tried to get involved with him his senior year and he told them to 'eff off.

Missouri originally saw a 6'2" two guard who shot too much, didn't like to play defense and didn't play hard. Once he grew, his game expanded.

Hansbrough was a high school senior during Anderson's last year at UAB. He was already signed, sealed and delivered to Miss. State when Anderson became the coach at Mizzou.

He showed a little interest when he transferred, but nothing serious. Before this year, he had been a solid college guard but nothing spectacular.

I know where you're coming from, and if you want to talk about not making up enough ground on Beal, or if you want to talk about the decision to stay the eff away from B.J. Young, that's one thing.

But you're overreacting to everything else. Especially Burks and Hansbrough.

I didn't touch on this, either. You kind of glossed over the fact that there are 4 outstanding players in the state this year (that we know of), and we are likely going to get one of them. I'm not 100% convinced that Porter is a Tiger, either. If Anderson goes to Arkansas, I don't see any chance that Porter goes to Mizzou. I guess that's a coup for MA, but it's not a big one.

I guess I understand Anderson, we really have to start wondering about his ability to recruit size and if that continued failure will always hold him back at this level. But if someone constantly slams both Pinkel and Anderson, I have to wonder if they know just exactly who they're rooting for.

MU has no right to top 25 squads in both sports. They damn sure don't have a right to top 10 ones. Pinkel's built a consistent top 25 squad and Anderson has a team capable of doing damage (built on the rubble of the Snyder era) that seems to have a lot of very good kids on it.

All told, there aren't many schools I'd swap our coaching situations with. I mean is anyone really eager to bring in Rick Barnes and Mack Brown? We have a nice pair of coaches in Columbia.
I don't hate Pinkel or Mike Anderson, but I do think that both have served their purpose. You can exist on a continuum of improvement where you move from Larry Smith to a good coach to a much better coach.

Missouri is a large, public university with a really nice donor and booster base. They have excellent facilities, and the town, although not Austin, Texas, is pretty good for a college atmosphere. It doesn't have the in-state pipelines of California, Florida, or Texas, but there's no reason why it can't be a solid, second tier school that can occasionally compete for NCs rather than waiting on a tornado to turn a junkyard into a functional F-15.

I think Pinkel has done a lot, and I still think that he can do more. I feel that Anderson has done a lot, but I think he's peaked.

I like both, and appreciate what they've done so far. In both cases there are times when I wish we recruited for, and ran, a more conventional style of play. You know.. a real goal line offense... decent offense and defense in the half court.

Our basketball team (lately) is better at defending fast breaks than conventional half court offense. They have an amazing knack for getting blocked shots when it should be a easy one for the opposition. So, I don't think a lack of athleticism is the problem...

The team shows a lack of desire in half court defense. They rotate lazily, and it allows way too many open 3's on the perimeter. On top of that, they routinely get beaten to balls they should never lose.

It's a lazy, soft team.

Missouri only tried to get three of them (didn't touch B.J. Young at all). It's going to get one (Porter will be a Tiger. Anderson is NOT going to Arkie).

Beal is a tough miss. Donovan started working Beal when Brad was about to enter 8th grade. Anderson never quite made up that early lead (though it was damn close, and Beal almost flipped to Mizzou in December). Kid is going to be a stud.

McLemore - who also has big qualification issues - is not settled yet. Situation is the same as it always has been... he wants to go to ku. Family - and especially Mom - wants him at Mizzou. If the family wins out, he'll be a Tiger.

I'll take two out of that three.

Young - who miraculously got a 22 on his ACT, I'm sure THAT's clean - is going to take those serious character concerns with him. I doubt he lasts long at whatever school he lands at.

Let's cut through the shit. Missouri is easily the largest state with only 1 BCS school. Why aren't we better? If Anderrson can coach and recruit, what is stopping this team from taking the next step?

If you look at MU's season there are about 5 things that stand out which caused MU to tank the last part of the season.

1. Losing out on Tony Mitchell's eligibility
2. The Kim English that never was
3. Lack of big men and presence in paint
4. Unnecessary 3's and horrible shot selection
5. Justin Safford is just horrible - don't know what else to say.

Safford and English are two of the worst players I've ever seen on a tournament team.
