Off Season Lets Talk Guns
Been a while since we had a guns n' ammo discussion.
Some of you are AR shooters Im sure. Im looking at a Colt 6920. Will be my first AR. Picked up a Glock this fall and really enjoy shooting it. Any feedback on that weapon? Anyone else been in a buy/sell/trade mood with hardware? Part 2: http://www.chiefsplanet.com/BB/showthread.php?t=293623 Last edited by Bearcat; 07-28-2015 at 06:06 PM.. |

When I clean my ARs I cringe at the thought of getting sand in the bolt and carrier. There is some close-tolerance metal moving very fast in there. I am not a huge fan of the gas-piston ARs. The groups that come out of those guns are 1 1/2 to 2". That is what a decent AK 74 (or 47) will do for a LOT cheaper price. |

The deal with me is it takes me a while to buy a gun because when I buy one I never sell them. Bought the old lady a sweet Taurus CIA 850 .38 special Stainless... it was used and sitting in the case for 250, clean and no scratches, I had to have it. |

Well, I finally did it. AR-10 National Match:
http://www.armalite.com/ItemForm.aspx?item=10A4BNMF Crazy. I just ordered the upper and my stripped lower should be coming in soon. I still need to order the lower kit along with a Magpul PRS stock. I don't understand why the full rifle is $2400, yet you can purchase the upper for $1000 and a complete lower for $500. WTF is up with that? Is the excise tax that bad for the full rifle? |

Stainless. Supposed to be a 1000 yard rifle with guys reportedly taking it out to 13-1400. (bullshit if you ask me, the bullet would become unstable at that range)
I like my current AR-10 since it is extremely consistant to 500 yards on 16" targets, but I have this sickness in which I need the best shit out there. Expensive sickness. |

Question regarding different caliber uppers - what other calibers will work with a .556 lower?

AR-15 (List 1) .204 Ruger .20 Tactical .20 Practical 5.45X39mm .222 Remington .222 Remington Magnum .223 Remington 5.56x45mm 6mm PPC 6.5 Grendel (and various wildcats) 6.8mm Remington SPC 7.62X25mm Tokarev 7.62x39mm .458 socom .50 Beowulf AR-10 (List 2) .243 Winchester .260 Remington 7mm-08 Rem .308 Win .338 Federal 6.5 Creedmoor List #1 are cartridges that will work with a standard AR-15 or M16 lower. There are several other cartridges, as well, including several WSSM chamberings and wildcats based on the .223 case. List #2 requires a longer, .308-size upper and lower receiver. As you can see, I added in a few additional cartridges for you that are currently popular in this platform. One consideration is that inexpensive 'plinking' ammo is not readily available in many of these other cartridges. Several of them are also 'barrel-burners,' and will erode the throat of a barrel very quickly - especially in full auto shooting. The hotter a barrel gets, the faster it erodes. A full auto rifle in one of these cartridges would be a very expensive proposition. I'm sure that several people will be along shortly to add their favorite cartridge that I didn't mention. There are several, and I didn't try to list them all. I'm no expert on NFA technicalities, but I believe that you have to list all of the different chamberings of your NFA weapons on the appropriate ATF form, and update it when they change. |

My friend just built a .300 Blackout, and that works on a 5.56 lower, too.
He was shooting about 40-50% at 500 yard 18" discs with that slow-ass bullet. It was dead-calm, but that is still impressive. 300 yards he was deadly every shot on 8" targets. |
