"Official" 2011 St. Louis Cardinals Thread

This is so unreal. We were dead. No hope. A season over. Somehow, someway we find some team chemistry and squeak into the playoffs on the last day of the season.

Only to find us facing one of the best pitching staffs assembled in years with home field advantage. We somehow, someway find a way to beat the best pitcher in baseball on the road in an elimination game.

We have to go on the road and beat the team with the best home record in baseball. A team who mortgaged their future to make this run .We somehow, someway find a way to beat them on the road and make our 18th World series trip.

We take game 1, we give away game 2 and home field advantage. Albert goes off for probably the best performance in World Series history and we take game 3 easily. Games 4 & 5 our bats fall asleep, Phone gate happens and its not looking too good.

Game 6, one of the best baseball games of all time and it takes place in a season ending go home game. Cardinals are down 2 runs in their final chance on the season, twice. They are down to their final strike of the season, twice. They give up a 2 run homer in extra innings. In the bottom of the inning their final 3 batters are a combined 3-26 in the Playoffs and a pitcher because the bench is empty. Somehow, someway they get some runners on and the comeback player of the year drives in the tying run. Mr. Freese hits the walk off home run. We will see you tommorrow night.

Game 7, With our bulldog on the mound pitching on 3 days rest he is able to give us 6 good innings and get us to within 9 outs of our 11 World series title. Texas meltsdown, probably left over from last nights game and its over.

The underdog, come back team who had no business even being in the playoffs wins a World championship. They make movies about events like this in life. Events that you remember even if your not a fan of the sport or team for the rest of your life.

When it is your team.......Priceless

Yay. Good thing we got this one, I'm thinking we may be without Yadi for 5+ games.

So...... That's what a "real" bullpen looks like.

As someone on my Cardinal board said:

"If you don't want to get spit on - learn how to umpire"

That was possibly the worst strike zone I've seen all year. For half the game he gave the low strike and abandoned the high. Starting in the 7th, he gave the high (sometimes) and took away the low. By the end of the game, notably the Fielder AB, he was just guessing.

And his academy award performance with Yadi's 'spitting' was just pathetic. I haven't seen a worse performance out of an umpire this season and that includes Joe West.

**** that guy and all his pets. I hope someone shits in his boot.

Can't say I disagree with much of that. Imagine a catcher of all positions would be particularly pissed at a K that far inside. Skip's K while not swinging at a high pitch out of the zone was an annoying one as well.

I agree with this entire post - but I doubt MLB does.

I'll be very surprised if Yadi gets through this without punishment.

I watched the replay of the game after that and I think I know what got him so pissed off.

In the 4th inning, he took that exact pitch from Marcum on a 1-2 count and the ump called it a ball. Then he sat behind the plate and watched that pitch get called a ball for most of the night.

He essentially had a front-row seat for his own screw job. Then the umpire evidently goaded him after he stepped backwards. Yadi said the ump was telling him "don't you come back here" as soon as the pitch was called a strike so he turned and immediately went back there. I gotta be honest, if I'd have been behind the plate for the game he was calling, I'd have done the same.

Oh, and for the record, that's the same ump that blew the call at 1b yesterday.

He's just a complete POS. If Yadi gets suspended, Torre at least needs to issue a formal reprimand to Drake. His performance thus far in the series has been shameful.

I watched parts of the game back in the boss's office; left to check it out when something happened on gamecast.

Thankfully it was a day game. This abortion of a performance would've put some people completely over the cliff.

Watching LaRussa completely freeze with 2 men on and Jackson at the dish was just pathetic. Then to watch him send Jackson out there to get beat on for another couple innings to justify his jackass decision to leave Jackson in to hit for himself was just infuriating.

Oh, and of course Yadi mailed the game in, Albert choked and Theriot screwed up everything; afterall what's a Cardinals game without at least 2 of those 3?

It was an absolute microcosm of everything this season has been. I just want it to be over. I've seen Cubs teams that were easier to root for than these guys.

*sigh*

Complaining about the ribbon board? Complaining about heckling?

Brandon Phillips is right - the Cards are a bunch of whiney bitches.

Quote:
MILWAUKEE -- St. Louis Cardinals manager Tony La Russa said a fan told him he hoped he would get shingles again and that others took insults too far in St. Louis' 8-7, 11-inning victory over the Milwaukee Brewers.

La Russa appeared to briefly engage in some banter after Tuesday's win, then called the fans "idiots" in comments after a game in which Albert Pujols was hit with a high pitch in the seventh inning. Brewers star Ryan Braun was plunked in Milwaukee's next at-bat.

"It's going way too far when they start cursing your family and the funniest one, the guy's yelling, 'I hope you get shingles again,'" La Russa said Wednesday. "That's just stupid. But when you watch and you ignore our guy get drilled when the other guy gets a little stinger, it's irritating."

La Russa said that Brewers officials removed several fans near St. Louis' dugout during the game. The 66-year-old La Russa struggled with shingles for nearly two months earlier this season, missing six games because of the condition.

The game turned tense in the seventh.

Pujols was hit on the left hand near the wrist he broke earlier this season. X-rays after the game were negative and Pujols was in the starting lineup for Wednesday's finale. Braun was then plunked by Jason Motte in the bottom of the inning that drew the ire of most of the crowd of 39,393.

"You don't want to get into a bean ball war," Braun said. "That's never fun."

La Russa called the pitch that hit Pujols "scary" but not intentional and they were trying to send a message to Braun by pitching him tight.

"That's what all these idiots up there -- not idiots, fans are yelling," La Russa said. "I don't want to even hear about Braun getting a little pop in the back when we almost lose (Pujols) in several ways."

The manager was also upset Wednesday at the Brewers TV broadcasters after their take on the inning's events.

"You would hope that the guys that work for the Brewers have enough guts and enough integrity to call the game as it is instead of worrying about their paycheck," La Russa said.

Brewers TV analyst and former catcher Bill Schroeder acknowledged he called the situation "bush league" when discussing the inning, but was not directing the comment toward La Russa. Schroeder said he and La Russa spoke by phone Wednesday morning, touching on several topics.

"I have a lot of respect for Tony La Russa," Schroeder said. "I would never call him bush league."

La Russa and Cardinals general manager John Mozeliak also said they had not heard from MLB about potential discipline for Yadier Molina, who appeared to make contact with plate umpire Rob Drake after arguing a called third strike in the 10th inning.

Drake had to wipe his face after it appeared he was hit by spittle while Molina was yelling. Molina maintained he did not spit on Drake, saying he was sweaty and any contact he made with Drake was incidental. Molina was in Wednesday's lineup.

I'd much rather lose to the Reds and Astros.

I hate the Brewers almost as much as the Cubs.

After 10 more games watching Nyjer "Jeffrey Leonard" Morgan's antics you might rethink that list.
