Either Pioli wants a quarterback or he doesn't. I don't see how you can truly believe that he wants a quarterback so badly that he'd give up the 8th overall pick to secure one, but he doesn't want one badly enough to not give up the 15th overall and the 75th overall.

And that's a false dichotomy, also flawed logic.

Look at the history of Belichick and Pioli independently as drafters. How often do they trade down? How often do they trade up?

It's obvious to any football fan that the New England model covets multiple 2nd and 3rd round picks, and that just so happens to be what you're going to have to give up, (if not a future first) in order to move up if you are at 15 rather than 8, 6, 4, whatever.

I happen to believe that there exists a scenario where a risk averse GM will draft a young QB to give himself time, but won't give up multiple picks in order to do so. That's precisely who I think Pioli is, I think it's been well documented by his drafting history, and it's most likely what is going to happen in late April.

The continuum is really:

QB at any cost-----QB for a small price-----QB but only if he's there----No high QB period.

I know it's the Broncos and all, but they might have tried that themselves if it wasn't for the trade deadline thing.
