You know, I really like Cassel. I do. But I have to admit, this statistic is one that just makes me want to cry...
I clicked on that Brandon Carr thread, checked out the site and found the stats on Matty Tassles quite disturbing. ------------------------------- 2009 To-Date: Drop backs: 267 (only 226 of which translated to an attempted pass) Sacks: 26 (plus 15 "rushing" plays) Thrown Away: 4 Hit as he Threw: 8 QB Rating: 77.2 ***Yards per Attempt: 5.6 (which is in the company of Seneca Wallace, Marc Bulger, Kerry Collins, and finally, JaFatass) ------------------------------- ***I personally think this stat tells you a lot about a QB, and even more about their team and coaching. |

He has only gotten hit 8 times while throwing out of 226 passes. Those numbers really tell the tale. Id like a breakdown of how much production he has through three quarters as opposed to the fourth. I bet it's lopsided as all beat hell. |

But almost all of us know that stat isn't right. No matter which side of the Cassel fence you're on. |

Because right now, Bowe reminds me of another guy who's on our roster. Chris Chambers. A guy who makes a bunch of spectacular plays, but can't be counted on to consistently make the routine ones. Maybe he's underperforming because Cassel isn't hitting him quick enough. Or maybe he's just not as good without Tony Gonzalez taking away all the attention. |

To this WR conversation though... DBowe is not Irvin, he's not Chambers, he's not Sharpe (the packer, not the bewbiwabewbiwafoobawz one). He's Dwayne Bowe, and I want to ask all the D-BO-SHOW lovers a quick one... Can your boy get open in 3 yards? That's not a slam either, that's a legitimate question for two reasons. First, that's all the time Cassel has to get it there. There, the obligatory is out of the way. Everyone knows and there's nothing we can do really. But everyone knows that without better protection, we're reduced to 1-step drops from the gun. Only crazy mobility in a constant bootleg could survive this joke of a line. Prime of his career Steve Young is the only guy I can think of who could pull it off. Point: This much suck is a team effort. Secondly, because that's how long it takes Reggie Wayne to get open. And because that's how long it takes Andre Johnson to get open. Used to say the same for Ochocinco, sometimes you still can...And the same goes for a host of others that have walked before DBowe's path. To anyone who claims DBowe is an elite WR in the NFL, I have to disagree. If you ask me, he has a lot of potential, but needs just as much work as anyone if he's to realize any of it. I like him, but he's too slow. This entire corp of wideouts needs to be focusing on that in my opinion - the art of getting the fuck open. You ever notice how guys like Wayne just play on a different field than the guy defending them? Again, just my opinion, but that is the mark of an elite WR. 2 more of my frustrated cents. One of the things that we need to start doing is hitting Bowe on quick slants. Of course that demands that Cassel have both proper footwork and accuracy on the quick patterns.
Once you establish the slants, then you can't start to go with double moves.

Also, Cassel needs to get through the progression faster. He's waiting for guys. You can't wait, he's either open or he's not. Throw the ball or find someone else, those are the options.
