Ignore mememe [like we need to be reminded]. I explained why soccer has a hard time catching on here in the Glenn Beck thread in DC. Basically everyone has some sense memory of what it means to hit a baseball, toss around a football, shoot a basketball, and have some success. Soccer takes more effort to sense what is going on on the pitch. People don't know what's easy and what's hard, what's sublime, what goes into sturdy defense or an intricate run up to goal. And you can't develop that knowledge just kicking a ball around at a family picnic.

Did you see Frazod's post on that thread. He basically stated (to his credit) that one reason he will not support the sport is because of the different races and ethnic peoples involved. I find his view repulsive but the idea that he's HONESTY about why he cannot get into the sport is most welcome.

Likewise, Whitlock tried to touch on the racial aspect of soccer in his backwards piece about how the US should be dominating and how they are not the underdogs because of their color and birth place. Which is ridiculous because the sport is basically in it's infancy as far as the US being competitive on a world level.

It's boring but you spend your time arguing about it on a message board? If I'm bored with something it does not deserve even a minute of my precious time.

Look, your reason for not liking soccer may have nothing to do with race but there are people out there who do not embrace the global experience that comes along with the sport of soccer.

That said, the ball was a full ball width past touch, and England got jobbed.
I guess to me it seems that in something as big as the WC having 2 or 4 more officials that just monitor the goal makes sense if you're not going to use some kind of electronic tool.

I suppose goals only come into question maybe once a WC though?

Thats a small % of the population. The racism card needs to be shoved up the ass of 95% of the people that pull it.

BabyLee nailed it. The majority of the population thinks that soccer is boring because we have no emotional involvement growing up. It was a PE game, and nothing more to a large population.

If I had grown up in Brazil, I would think that soccer is amazing and American football makes no sense and sucks. Like anything else in life, the result of our interests and ethics comes from our upbringing.

I do not see how FIFA can continue it's no replay stance. Not with the electronic access people have to seeing botched calls on an instantaneous and worldwide level.

Having no replay insane.

With all of the money, prestige, and lives (remember Columbia) at stake, it doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out that some of the officials are being juiced.

I was getting pissed watching some of the matches and how horribly they are called, and this year is the first time in my life I have actually wached more then 3 minutes of soccer.

How can you guys (the hardcore fan) keep your shit together watching the botch jobs by the refs?!
