Leroi Moore (DMB sax player) dead
http://www.rollingstone.com/rockdail...re-dead-at-46/
Dave Matthews Band Saxophonist LeRoi Moore Dead at 46 8/19/08, 10:36 pm EST LeRoi Moore, saxophonist and founding member of the Dave Matthews Band, died suddenly in Los Angeles Tuesday afternoon after suffering complications from an ATV accident in June. Moore was 46. The June 30th accident on Moore’s farm in Charlottesville, Virginia, left him with broken ribs and a punctured lung. Moore was on the path to recovery, arriving in Los Angeles for an intensive physical rehabilitation program, but according to the DMB Website, he returned to the hospital last month due to complications. A representative for Dave Matthews Band confirmed Moore’s passing and in a statement the band indicated the musician died at Hollywood Presbyterian Medical Center. Since Moore’s accident, DMB has continued on with their U.S. tour with Bela Fleck and the Flecktones’ saxophonist Jeff Coffin filling in. Despite Moore’s death, the band still performed Tuesday night at Los Angeles’ Staples Center, which featured a setlist that contained a number of tributes to their fallen bandmate. |

Founding member? I thought Carter Beauford founded the band after playing in a club that DM bartended at?
Regardless, it is sad to hear. There are lots of extremely talented musicians in the world, but very few can not only come together and play with the same band AND make outstanding and original music. |

"skibbity-bob, ants and insects and stuff, zippity-zap..."
Some comedian did a funny little bit about singing along to DMB. |

My buddy called me late last night and told me about it, later than he normally would. I knew something was wrong. It's like someone in your family when you become so familiar with someone through books, music, interviews, etc. Leroi had a lot of demons in life, but was apparently able to beat them only to succumb to something seemingly so mundane. DMB helped me through a tough time in my life as well, and I've often explained to people, that a concert gives me the feeling I imagine some get from going to church. I'm not a religious person myself, but when I hear certain songs that remind me of tougher times, and how it seemed these 5 musicians either understood or at least had been there too, it comforts me to this day. They are my favorite band and always will be. I wonder now about the band's future? They've considered themselves family, I wonder if they have the heart to go on much longer if this will inspire them to keep moving.

Sad to hear....RIP.
Not a huge DMB fan, but i did just see them in Houston last week...and they do put on a heck of a show. The guy they had sitting in on sax did a pretty outstanding job...i know he is with some other band...i wonder if they will try to move forward with him, or if they will be finding someone else. At any rate....RIP LeRoi. |
