Gaines looked fine today.
The issue is the guys behind him in Cooper, Nelson, Russell and White. Russell's been running with the 3's and 4's and hasn't done dick. Nelson hasn't stood out, either. Cooper's been, well, Cooper. Neither good or bad. White has upside but he's not ready to start. At least Dorsey continues to churn the roster. |

Nah, Gaines looked fine out there to me.
It's probably more about the fact that the rookies just don't look ready at all to play a significant role. Right now the only solidCBs we have are: Peters Gaines Nelson Those are literally the only 3 CBs that we have who have experience playing and are actually good enough to play (which rules out Cooper). The rookies have shown that they aren't ready to play significant snaps judging by their performances in the Pre-season games and we are royally screwed if either Gaines or Peters goes down. Trading for Acker is the right move, IMO. He's solid and has shown better coverage ability than Nelson so far in his career. He's young and has better size, and therefore better versatility, than Nelson. |

But to add to your point trading for Acker was the right move. CB depth is awful on this team right now.
