I'm watching the preseason ATL v. INDY game from Tokyo. It appears that the entire stadium is full. I'm quite surprised. What does that say about the popularity of the NFL overseas? Supposedly, the NFL is interested in expanding the league to other nations. Do we really want a team in Mexico City or Toronto or other nations? Now, if the NFL is just trying to market to other nations, that's fine with me as long as it doesn't significantly change the game itself.

The NFL wouldn't stand a chance overseas. They would get totally wiped out by soccer. Soccer is far more popular than football. Ask Psicosis.

International perspective:

I think realistically what is going to happen is you'll have a couple of regular season games going overseas in the next few seasons, just to test the water abit. There is supposedly big talk of a regular season game in Britain next year. In fact, it's been said that it would have been the game that's in Mexico this year (that's right isn't it?), but because of the time difference problems it was put off. I think there was also problems with finding a stadium, as most of the biggest stadiums here are for soccer and aren't wide enough. Anyway, I think the long term plan is probably to make NFL Europe into a proper league, rather than bring any regular NFL team into Europe, because the time difference problem cant really be overcome if someones playing a game here every other week.

I live in Toronto, a true Canadian who loves his country and I'm a huge NFL fan. I would not want the NFL to expand. The National football League doesn't need any more teams nor does Canada need another embarassment like the Expos, Grizzlies or the Raptors.
Canada has the CFL (which in my eyes is a bit of a joke) but, it has history and tradition, and if the NFL expanded north of the border, it may spell the end for the CFL and my hometown's claim to fame the Hamilton Tiger Cats.
The NFL is more than fine the way it is. Toronto doesn't need more overpaid superstars coming up here to do nothing other than bitch about our currency and the metric system - Antonio Davis. And NFL fans to need to be reminded on how the rules work whenever there is a game being shown from another country for the sake of new international fans - Fox with the NHL.
Keep the NFL American. As long as I can still watch it on the tube or make a trip south of the border to catch a game, I'm happy!
