Describe a scenario where you would take up arms against the U.S. government.

What would it take for you to start up a rebellion group? What events would have to happen for you to think that you should risk your life to change how America is governed? Please be as specific as possible; I don't want to hear, "Some crazy despot is elected president." I want to hear, "The President disbands Congress at gunpoint" or "The President orders an invasion of Canada" or "The president has made it illegal for me to own slaves" or "The government is killing everyone who wears glasses and is sending the rest to the countryside" or some such thing.

Yeah, felonies are brutal. I know someone with a felony record, and I think that some of the long-term punishments really outweigh the person's crime. (And he did commit a crime, but still...he paid his dues long ago.)

I agree with Big Daddy on this one. There's too much enthusiasm about making crimes felonies with no regard to the fact that the person then can't vote, own a gun, etc. The person that I know wrote some bad checks. Okay, a lot of bad checks. But it was more of a business screwup than an intentional crime. And now he can't vote in an election? And he had to give up his gun collection? Come on.

This is a pretty good description of such a scenario, written over 75 years ago. Haven't read it in 15 years or more, but it held up pretty well over the years, IIRC.

One example. The next Presidential election occurs and Bush refuses to turn the Presidency over to the rightful winner.

Now that's a good one.

Interestingly, though, if he did that, the Constitution would still say that the new president is president, right? So I would think that the armed forces would be legally obligated to help the new president throw him out of the White House. In that case, there would have to be a precursor where the current president tried to pass some sort of law to pre-empt presidential elections "in an emergency" or something. And then he'd have to invoke it. Am I right? Or am I just rambling?

Its good to know some people understand the difficulties of having a felony, even if its over a decade old. If any one knows of a job opportunity in or around Wichita, I would be grateful, and even rethink my stance on the armed uprising!
