New Yankee Stadium possibly a disaster?

http://insider.espn.go.com/espn/blog...e=olney_buster

http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=4080195

http://www.accuweather.com/news-weat....asp?#extremes

Interesting articles on ESPN and other sites. Its early, but we may have an explanation for those high-scoring games in New York. Apparently the configuration of the seating may have inadvertantly created some sort of wind tunnel effect blowing to right field. Rival team scouts have sent the word out around baseball that Yankee Stadium now plays more like Coors Field.

That may be exciting for fans, but the Yankees may have screwed themselves with their $1.5 Billion-dollar ballpark. If you want to compete, you do NOT want a hitter's paradise. Good pitchers are rarer and harder to sign as free agents than hitters. You can find a lot of servicable hitters and a few superstar bats every year, but only the best teams have good pitching. If the new stadium plays short, the Yankees could have problems getting free agent pitchers to wear pinstripes. There are plenty of wealthy teams that play in good pitchers parks.

I seen that earlier on espn. If this is the case, this is ****ing poetic justice. No pitchers are going to want to play for them. lol Maybe aging vets, but in the prime pitchers are going to go elsewhere and in the long run make more money. lol

Easy solution, just get a big-ass fan (mechanical kind) to blow it the other way....of course that may cause a tornado.

It's pretty hard to predict that kind of thing.

Look at Great American Ballpark. The Reds had no idea they were building a launching pad. The Padres didn't know that Petco was going to be where hitters went to die.

The Cardinals did all kinds of studies on how their park would play, but they were still holding their breath for the first several games at Busch II (and it still played slightly more pitcher friendly than they expected it would).

Teams can do a lot of things to get an idea how this stuff is going to work, but they never know for sure until they get in there. For that reason alone I would never spend big money on long-term deals the year I move into a park. It's just way to easy to hamstring your club and end up with a team that doesn't fit the park.

All that said: Chen Ming Wang has more to do with the HRs that left that park than the wind did. That guy sucks worse than Farnsworth.

It was a Hillman slaying all day today. Rany came on in the morning, etc., so there was some looking ahead to trying to get our dominant lefty the **** out of the rotation.

Most were hoping that this means Bannister will get the start on Saturday.

And they spent all that money on pitchers for what is now a team that plays in an apparent "hitter's park."

You can call this hating if you want, I don't care, but new Yankee Stadium on tv at least has nowhere near the "personality" if you will of old Yankee Stadium. It just seems like every other boring park now. The mystique is gone. Way to go spanks.

The field and wall is the same dimension, but the stadium faces a slightly different direction, and the upperdeck seats are less "tiered". Apparently the difference between the lower and upper seats in the old park was so sharp that it created a wind break, but the new seats are more "sloping".

I thought I heard something about the open concourses contributing to the problem, I wouldn't think that would be difficult to rectify.

Mystique doesn't matter as much as generating revenue.

I didn't say it did but the Yankees always bragged about the mystique of the old stadium.

Being a lefty, CC may not have quite as hard a time. Lefty pull hitters are going to struggle to turn on him and with his stuff, he's capable of busting pitches in on the fists of righties to keep them from trying to poke opposite field shots. Pettite should be alright as well, he's crafty enough to keep hitters off balance and rolling groundballs to 2b all day rather than lifting balls up into the jet stream.

Soft tossing righthanders will really feel the sting, however. Wang might just be proof positive of that (Ian Kennedy will be another interesting experiment).

But again, it may all just be hooey, a large panic brought about by the vacuum of suck surrounding Wang.
