2010 Predictions

Just thought I'd go on record now.

Like most people I fully believe that, before he was hired, Pioli discussed with Clark the slow process of building a winner. That it takes time and that they can be competitive early without spending a lot in the way of bonus money. Now that they've had their first blackout in 19 years and are about to unveil a "new" stadium, I think the heat will be on to be competitive much sooner. I'd have to imagine that season ticket renewals are at an all time low.

Given that Haley's hiring looks like a complete FAIL and that those seats aren't going to fill themselves, I think Pioli will have to deviate from his plan to bring in reinforcements much sooner than he thought he would.

Given that, I predict we'll see the following:
Anquan Boldin in a KC uniform. Romeo Crennel & Charlie Weis become the new coordinators. I also think we'll make a bit of a splash in free agency by adding a defensive playmaker.

I'm not a big fan of Romeo, as his defenses sucked in Cleveland and I think that BB was always the brains behind the NE defenses. He's still way better than Clancy and I think the hiring of both he and Weis would get a lot of fans excited, which translates into selling tickets.

Boldin wants a new contract and has worn out his welcome in Arizona. With the continued development of Steve Breaston and the emergence of a running game, I don't think they'll pay to keep the 29 year old Boldin. Especially since they have to figure out something with Darnell Dockett & Karlos Dansby.

Huh??????

What decision making are you talking about? You mean you think that Pioli chose old vets because of the CBA, signing Cassel to his contract or making Haley head coach?

Not sure I'm following you.

He very well might, but paying a guy goes a long way toward making him like you. His best years definitely didn't come under Haley so its not like you can say that he made him better. What I do know is that after this season I think Haley would give his left nut to have a receiver like Boldin.

To entice season ticket holders who purchase a set, the Chiefs should give away an 8x10 of Haley flipping off the fans.

-Pioli will be very aggressive about hiring new coaches, but Haley will not be replaced
-Romeo Crennel will be the DC... and I don't really know how to feel about that right now
-No idea who the OC will be, but I bet it's somebody younger and with less experience
-The Chiefs will give Cassel another year without competition and I think that will be a mistake
-Pioli will have a significantly better draft in 2010 and we'll bring in a lot better players in the late rounds and through undrafted rookies, now that he has his full scouting staff in place
-Pioli will really want to spend a lot of money on free agents, but won't be able to because the CBA will probably fall through
-The Chiefs are going to be very aggressive in free agency no matter what. But if no CBA, I doubt they bring in any major difference makers

As for wins, not even worth looking into until we saw what kind of moves Pioli makes.

That may be so, but LJ was happy earlier in the season. Boldin wants to get paid. If we trade for him he's coming here whether he likes it or not. If we give him a new contract, he'll be happy. Haley knows Boldin is far better than anything we have now. Him being here would make us much better quicker than anyone else we can add on offense. I'd take Vincent Jackson or Malcolm Floyd, who are both going to be free agents and San Diego has a number of guys they need to resign including Sproles, so one of them could hit the free agent market. I'd take either on but Boldin knows the offense and would make an immediate impact. Braylon Edwards and Miles Austin are going to be free agents too but I can't see Austin hitting the market.

I'd also like to see us sign Ryan Pickett to play NT. He's going to be a FA but they drafted Raji to play that spot and he's held him off for now. I think they'll let Pickett walk and move Raji into the position he was drafted to play. Green Bay has the #2 ranked run defense and Pickett is a big reason why. Plus he's not as fat as most NT's and carries more muscle than most on his 340 lb frame.

Golden Tate is not a #1 WR at the next level, in fact he's most likely a slot guy. He isn't the best WR prospect on his college team.
