Redskins sign Sean Ryan

Redskins sign Sean Ryan
Posted by Michael David Smith on March 11, 2010 8:19 AM ET

In an off-season when many expected them to break the bank, the Washington Redskins have once again made a small-time free agent signing that demonstrates they're going to be fiscally conservative this year.

Adam Schefter of ESPN reports that Washington has signed former Chiefs tight end Sean Ryan to a one-year contract.

As Schefter points out, in the first week of free agency the Redskins have now signed two players, Ryan and offensive lineman Artis Hicks. So much for Dan Snyder going hog wild in an uncapped year.

Ryan is a 29-year-old veteran who bounced around the league as a backup with the Cowboys, Jets, Dolphins, Saints and 49ers from 2004 to 2008. In 2009 he signed with the Chiefs and had his best season, starting eight games and catching 14 passes for 135 yards and two touchdowns.

He couldn't get open, although he often had the targets of a #1 receiver (I don't know how you could have missed him). When the ball was thrown his way, he either dropped it, or caught it and got approximately 0 YAC.

That was when he wasn't averaging about 9 millimeters per kick or punt return.

Thanks...

Was he a decent blocker at least?
I know the dudes huge.

Oh, and btw...

I missed a lot of games last year because well, they sucked. I opted for being out in the field hunting instead.

I refuse to tune into those dumbasses, but has anyone ever called in and offered a non-true fan style analysis of the Chiefs? It'd be interesting to see how they were treated.

We've got a talk show like that here, too. All NU football, all the time. Each recruiting class is better than the last. This show went as far to say that the husker defense will be better this year because Suh is leaving.

I thought Pope was a good pickup for us last year. Cottom is an intrguing player to me. He was starting to come on a bit till he got hurt. If he could stay healthy and get his chance, he may be a decent TE. Don't think TE position is strength, definately a question mark at this point though. Could have the potential to be a solid position for us pending if Cottom develops or not, would consider drafting a TE though if I were the Chiefs
