it took so long to see him in action because of a locker room fight, but has shown flashes. I think in a few seasons this could be an A+ pick.

I honestly haven't noticed him at all, other than that fumble with Palko, but have no clue if it's his fault or Palko's. Too early for me to really know

3rd round: OLB Justin Houston

has started a lot this season, I think I noticed him almost getting to Big Ben once, other than that I've never actually noticed him do anything, but it's early.

3rd round: DE Allen Bailey

I'm sorry, I understand he's a rookie but if you are a QB in the NFL and you can't beat out Palko for the 2nd job, you must really really suck.

No, we didn't get someone like Newton, who would appear to be a franchise changer, but we weren't in a position to do so really.

Bengals win the draft right now, IMO. But the Chiefs are looking just as good as anyone else to this point. That said, I think they got there simply by not trying to be the smartest guy in the room (like they pulled in 2010).

When Houston slipped, they grabbed him. When Powe and Stanzi slipped, they grabbed them. Even Bailey was a guy that many projected in the 2nd. Hudson was a little earlier than I'd have taken him, but not any earlier than projected and he fit a perfect need.

I would say the only times they got 'cute' were with Bannon and Brown...those are also probably the two worst picks of the draft. I guess you could say Baldwin was a 'clever' pick, but Baldwin was considered no worse than the #3 most talented WR in the draft and the other 2 were long gone - so it seemed like a very conventional pick to me (and I loved it).

I like this draft because they didn't go out there and try to out-think the process. It was a welcome change from the 2 previous years.

McCluster is a useless POS that should never EVER have been drafted where he was. There is no greater example of getting 'cute' and ****ing your franchise.

Arenas is a nickle-corner and punt returner; a 4th round value we took in the 2nd - that's called getting too cute. Conventional wisdom has them taking Terrance Cody there - you really want to beat your chest over this pick?

Moeaki, well what do ya know? The injury prone guy is injured. And Hernandez (who went after him) was universally considered a higher value pick. Ultimately, I'd rather have Hernandez and by a fair margin. Hell, Jimmy Graham was considered a 2nd or 3rd rounder and we passed on him for Moeaki. Most folks had him around the 3rd best TE w/ Moeaki barely slipping inside the top 10. Uh...oops.

Asomoah was another 'value' pick; they just played the board and took a guy with a late 1st, early 2nd value in the 3rd round. A calm, rational pick.

Lewis is an okay safety they got in the late rounds. He was a decent scouting pick and about the only time I can remember the Chiefs leaving the board and not getting burned for it.

Once again, every time these guys try to prove how smart they are, they end up doing something amazingly stupid. If we'd have just 'played the board' we'd have Butler instead of McCluster, Cody instead of Arenas and Graham/Hernandez instead of Moeaki. Oh yeah, and we'd still have Asomoah and Berry.

He's played more than everyone not named Baldwin or Houston, but he hasn't had much impact on the field.

Im not going to argue with you about this. A team cant hit a Home Run or get a Superstar on every pick. As long as they get solid contributors with 3 or 4 picks, thats usually considered a decent draft.

Just guessing, but ill bet the teams that took those players you said we should have taken, missed on several of their other picks as well.

I'm grading only their rookie contributions and not their total worth as draft picks, because rookies may take a couple of years to get up to speed. But here goes on their rookie contributions:

1st round: WR Jon Baldwin - D-. He moves up from F because of that whole "I caught a safety" catch. He wasn't on the field at all for many weeks and he's dropped some very catchable passes. He's shown that he has the talent to be good, though, so I'm hoping he'll improve rapidly.

2nd round: OG/C Rodney Hudson. C-. We've seen very little of him, and he's undersized, but I'm hopeful that he'll seize a starting job next year. I wouldn't have expected him to win a starting job this year, but I had hoped he would.

3rd round: OLB Justin Houston. B. He won a starting job and after being lost for the first half of the season he appears to be gaining traction. I've like his game the last couple of weeks and have hopes that he'll ascend rapidly and become a heckuva player for us.

3rd round: DE Allen Bailey. C-. Doing about what I would expect a third-rounder to do, maybe a little less than I had hoped, but he's kind of a tweener in our system.

4th round: CB Jalil Brown. D-. The only times I've noticed him are when he's screwed up. Has he made a tackle on special teams yet?

5th round: QB Ricky Stanzi. C. About what I expect out of a late-round QB. He made the roster, and that's a victory.

5th round: OLB Gabe Miller. D. Seriously, where is he? Is he on the practice squad?

6th round: NT Jerrell Powe. C+. A sixth-round guy making the team and actually getting on the field on defense is pretty good, plus it seemed like he was holding his own. I'm hopeful for a fast ascent next year.

7th round: FB Shane Bannon. F. Probably too harsh, but I would expect him to at least make the team as a draft choice. Is he on the practice squad?

It's funny that this was the dream draft of the collective of chiefsplanet and we're not seeing much impact. However, I do think there are some players on this list who are still ascending and can be good players for us. We just didn't get a whole lot at all this year.

If the Chiefs had simply gone chalk; taken the conventional pick across the board, they'd have ended up with better players - period. Y'all can dodge that point however you want.

When the Chiefs didn't feel the need to prove that they were the smartest bunch of guys in the room, they made good picks (most of the 2011 draft). When they decided it was time to prove just how awesome the Executive of the Decade was, they ended up with a McCluster**** and a nickle corner instead of a nose tackle.
