Pestilence's Mock Draft

**** you all......I'm going trade crazy.

The Chiefs trade down from #11 with the Bengals for their 1st (#17), 3rd (#83) and 5th (#166). The Bengals move ahead of the Cowboys and draft David Decastro.

The Chiefs trade down from #17 with the Lions for their 1st (#23) and 3rd (#85). The Lions move up to draft Stephen Gilmore.
Quote:
1st - Devon Still, DE/DT, Penn State

Dorsey is as good as gone next season. I would look to trade him before the draft but I don't see anyone giving up a draft pick for a player AND signing him to a huge contract. Still comes in and immediately becomes Dorsey's replacement. Tyson Jackson might be out next season if he doesn't reschedule his contract numbers as well. That would give the Chiefs Still and Bailey as their DEs.
Quote:
2nd - Harrison Smith, SS, Notre Dame

It's been brought up multiple times already but moving Eric Berry to FS would not only allow him to play longer (career wise) but also allow him to be the ball hawk that we all know he can be. Smith is good against the run but can also cover the pass as well. Crennel likes to run a lot of three safety formations....so you could put Lewis at FS, Smith at SS and let Berry be the rover.
[B]
Quote:
3rd - Brock Osweiler, QB, Arizona State

Yes, I have him falling here. I think his lack of experience makes him drop down the board a little bit. He's going to need to sit at least a year and develop. Cassel is going to get another year to prove himself anyways....so why not let Osweiler sit and learn from Zorn.
Quote:
3rd - Josh Chapman, NT, Alabama

Crennel gets his NT. Both Chapman and his agent are saying that he'll be ready for training camp.
Quote:
3rd - Ben Jones, C, Georgia

I'm in the group of people that want Hudson to stay at guard. Jones should be able to come in and start from day 1.
Quote:
4th - Chase Minnifield, CB/KR, Virginia

CB depth is a must......and Minnifield can help spell Arenas when it comes to returning kicks/punts.
Quote:
5th - Bruce Irvin, DE/OLB, West Virginia

Our depth at OLB is horrendous. Irvin isn't going to stunt Houston's growth but he will be able to give Hali or Houston a breather.
Quote:
5th - Matt Reynolds, OT, BYU

Albert and Winston are your tackles for the future but it's always nice to have that swing tackle that can fill in for injuries.
Quote:
6th - James-Michael Johnson, ILB, Nevada

LB depth is always good to have.
Quote:
7th - Jeff Fuller, WR, Texas A&M

Quote:
7th - Tauren Poole, RB, Tennessee

Poor Dorsey, he had so much potential but circumstances have ruined what was once a promising career.
Dorsey would likely fetch at least a 3rd rounder, and while his contract won't be anything near what his first was, it won't be a shitty contract either.

I love Irvin, and he's not going to fall to the 5th round. A far more realistic scenario is to select him with the 3rd rounder you used on Ben Jones and then use Irvin's 5th on Philip Blake.

Also, I'd love to see our 7th round flier be spent on that Akpla guy that Nightfyre has been pimping all draft season.

But we're just nit-picking here, really. That is one sexy-ass mock.

God, that is a sexy mock. We're already one of the deepest teams in the division. With this draft we'd be set to win the goddamn division Cassel and all. **** you Manning.

And if Matt were to get injured and Stanzi/Quinn weren't giant hunks of bird shit?

Dare... I say it? We win a playoff game THIS YEAR?

You've merely put a more positive spin on my original post.
Dorsey has been the victim of bull headed coaching philosophies that have been trying to fit square pegs (Dorsey) into round holes (3-4 Defense) for the past several years.
If you think a team will give up a 3rd or higher for a guy who's on the last year of his contract and has little to show for his time spent in the league you're off your rocker.
Like I said, there may be a 4-3 team with a need at DT (Carolina) who would gamble to offer more than a 5th for him but his current contract situation lessens his return value.

Though we have our differences great draft pest.

The only pick I'm not sure bout is still. I'm not high on taking a de that early I think we can get the bodies state kid later who will be just as effective.

We being the bammer homer I am I think we need to draft lib Hightower.

He is a leader and nasty as hell. He would be our ray Lewis this D needs to be intimidating and he would do that.

Then your pick of chapman is great he is a lot better than some think. He played hurt all year and still made plays.

Overall great draft

Osweiler sucks. Irvin won't be around that long. Minnifield is reportedly falling (IIRC he had minor knee surgery and hasn't been able to run well since). I can't get excited about Still.

We could probably make Barron, Hightower and Chapman our top 3 picks (with a slight move up for Hightower from our second rounder) and take Molk after that and be one hell of a nasty team for people to match up with.

If Cassel can't win playoff games with that team, Stanzi can.

If you'd have drafted Perry or Brockers at 23, I'd have been fine with it.

Still isn't going to amount to more than a rotational lineman in the NFL, IMO. He's maxed and his max just isn't that great. In the end, I'd probably just avoid that 2nd trade down altogether.

The talent takes a dip at 10 and again at 19 or 20. no sense in trading out of that spot for just a 3rd rounder; a late 3rd at that.

For where you have them going and the the need for this team, Bravo!

People could get picky, but that is a pretty good order for how this team should draft based on what is left after the Colts and Skins 1-2 are done.

Nice. I dont see Detroit doing anything with us as we nailed them for tampering. I also know I'm driving the bandwagon, but I'd take Russel Wilson over Osweiler even in the 3rd., but not by a whole lot. Still would be interesting as a legasy from his uncle he should be motivated. nice needs fills
