Kansas Citian behind ‘Glass must go’ ad in Star

Awesome! This guy speaks for alot of us!

http://www.kansascity.com/2012/08/22...lass-must.html

Last month, Joseph Accurso and buddies from his college days were playing poker, talking about another lost Royals season and wondering whether there was a way to express their anger over the lack of progress under owner David Glass.
Yes, they decided. Take it to the people.

Accurso bought a half-page ad in today’s editions of The Star to present a letter to Glass, imploring him to sell the team.

“I’m a lifelong Kansas City guy, who like a lot of people loves the Royals,” said Accurso, 37, a commercial real-estate broker. “My buddies and I were tired of complaining about it and decided to do something.”

Accurso created a website, no-more-glass.com to solicit donations for the newspaper space, and more than 150 people contributed $5,100, sending anywhere from $5 to $250.
The seven-paragraph letter opens by thanking Glass for buying the team in 2000.
It ends with a plea.

“By any measure when accounting for wins and losses, the records will show the fans have rolled up their sleeves, in the only way Kansas Citians know how, and met our commitments to the franchise we love. There is no measure that can support the same sentiment for your records. It’s time to win again, Mr. Glass. I implore you, Mr. Glass, to sell the team immediately, enjoy the rest of your days with your family without the burden of team ownership, and accept our thanks for keeping the team in Kansas City.”

The Royals say their mission has never changed.
“We love our fans, and they’ve backed us in difficult times,” said Kevin Uhlich, Royals senior vice president for business operations. “If anybody out there believes we have motives other than to bring a championship here, they’re mistaken.

“Nobody wants it more than our chairman (Glass) and (general manager) Dayton Moore. There is no lack of commitment. It’s sad there are those who want to spin it differently.”
Accurso, who said he attends a couple of games a year and watches them all on television, said he’s not sure what to expect from the grass-roots campaign.

“I’m not naïve enough to think I can write a letter, Glass will read it and say, ‘I should sell the team,’ ” Accurso said. “But I felt like, ‘Can I take some initiative and at least get a conversation started?’ ”

The recent run of Royals success — a 13-8 August record — didn’t deter Accurso.
“The Royals tend to play better at the end of the year and give everybody hope for the next season,” said Accurso, who was 10 when the 1985 World Series title was the Royals’ last postseason appearance. “I guess after 27 years, I’ve earned the right to be a little cynical.”

It's true. Was discussed quite a bit in the Royals repository thread a while back. Head banging ensued.

I hope not. Not yet. The SKC owners need to focus on building their brand and growing soccer in the area and nationwide. Besides, so many Royals fans have been downright nasty about SKC even while the Royals organization has done nothing but support them. I think it would benefit the Royals more than Sporting and this fan has real reservations about that.

Where would they move them that would make more money than a WINNING team in KC? The Baseball market is pretty saturated right now dont you think?

Glass is a joke, pay minimum wage and max profits is his only philosophy. I bet he doesn't even know the game of baseball. It's a joke and I don't understand at all why anybody would actually go to the games and support this farm team for all of the other teams.

I know that shouting "Wal Mart team!!" prints money from dumb rednecks, but if you want to blame anyone, point the guns of criticism at Dayton Moore. He's had enough time to get this team to the postseason.
Glass has allowed major spending in foreign development and for signing drafted players... so he gets a pat on the back for those things. However he hasn't loosten the purse stings with the major league club to be able to really compete for good starting pitching via free agency yet... while at the same time allowing "Our Time" to be the teams slogun this year. If it was supposed to be our time then at least giving Dayton all the power ($) he needed to improve that in the off season would have been the priority.

I don't think the team would be moved, in fact the SKC ownership group is a KC based group. If I responded wrongly to a post or lead people to believe I thought the team would be moved then I wasn't clear.

Owners own teams, they don't run them. Sure they make money available but in most cases they hire people and let them do their jobs. (don't look at Jerry Jones here) If they have the money I don't see how owning a second KC sports franchise would distract from building SKC's brand.

Do you follow SKC? Those owners are extremely involved in the team. I'm surprised they have time for their real jobs. I don't see how they could commit that much time and energy to two teams. Especially such a miserable franchise as the KC Royals have become. The Wizards were at least competitive over the previous decade. The Royals haven't been for a LONG time.

If they can do both equally well the I'm all for it. But if it means SKC suffers at all then I say, no thanks. I'd rather have two sets of owners doing things equally well than one doing it half assed for two teams.
